I'm going to prick about with my 79 2.0 petrol LT 28 over the winter and try to make some adjustments that hopefully will slightly improve on its dismal economy figures, Im thinking of 3 main things
1: To remove the the Automatic choke and fit a manual one.
2: To remove the fixed cooling fan and fit 2 electric cooling fans with a 2 stage temperature sensor.
3: Have the carb properly set up by a specialist carb and fuel injection diagnostics company.
Am I wasting my time? any positve or negative feedback would be appreciated! Im hoping apart from economy that the new cooling system will produce lower noise than the old one.

any one done a lpg convertion on a 2litre? would like to do one to mine but it would cost ten times more than the vans worth!!!! also, anyone had a closer look at the injection system of a 922(or what ever used it on this engine) my head is the same as the injetion ones but its just not drilled for the injectors(the bits are cast in)

Looking at the the LPG conversion at the moment, just got the dosh together.
Kit for the carb end is £165 and the tank is £50 - £200 depending on size and age. I'm going for a 100 litre or bigger to get a bit extra range. Don't know what extra bits you need, but I'll post something when I've got the list together. Here's where I got the quote from:- http://www.spacevista.afreeweb.info/lpgshop/home.html Had the bus tuned in June before me hols, and I got 15MPG up and down the hills in Cornwall. Driving locally its nearer 20MPG. Edited by AndyT - 25 Oct 08 at 11:26 |

Hi Folks,
Going to do the Autogas course hopefully before Christmas, not cheap but then I can convert other vehicles and be qualified to issue certificates required by insurance companies. Looked into the DIY conversion, and whilst its possible for anyone mechanically minded, its damn near impossible to get the installation safety certificate. Andy |

i swapped an lpg kit off an old landrover with my mate for a bunch of veg oil kit. said mate is going to install the lpg in his 2.4 petrol lt35.... I'll point him in your direction Andy if you get that autogas course done, as he's worried about the certification stuff.

Cheers,
Bristol area is certainly doable from where I am, thinking about offering a mobile service for welding and LPG conversion. Landrover's use the same carb as mine in many cases, not sure about the 2.4 though so might need to source some parts. All this sort of thing is part of the course, just waiting for the course info before I hand over me £2K. Andy |
