    Posted: 21 Oct 08 at 22:31
Hi All
Does anyone know of a breaker with a pair of leaf springs available for an LT28. I've got an old 1983 Karman Model L on a LT28.

Jobs Done So Far:
Replaced windscreen
Front wishbone bushes replaced
Replaced brake pressure valve
Fitted UK RHD headlights

Jobs to Do
Replace rear springs (collapsed)
Sort out electrics (hazard switch buzzes horn)
Cam belt service

Any other places to get springs from?

Don't know of a second hand part but it shouldn't be too hard to get some made, if I find anyone with some in stock I'll let you know.

Try this link and let us know how you get on

Hi, as you can see from my post - I need a rear axle for a similar aged vehicle - please let me know if you find a breaker with springs as he'll no doubt have an axle attached to them! - Obviously I'll do likewise  - I'd even be happy to buy a complete van and break it (assuming it wasn't worthy of going back on the road of course!).

Thanks & Rgds
Peter.

Just to add, had another thought - I know of a guy in Chorlton, Manchester, who's breaking an early LT camper (I think its late '70s), but its got a twin wheel rear axle so guess its an LT35 - don't know if they are the same but looking quickly at the VW manual diagrams of the two axles, they look the same. I could give you his contact details or get in touch with him if you wish?

Yes, I agree the axles are different, but as far I can see, the springs look the same. I guess the springs on a twin wheel axle may be thicker/stronger, as they will be designed to carry a heavier load. Putting potentially stronger (LT35) springs on an LT 28 should not cause a problem as the two vans are essentially identical, other than the load capacity. If the springs are stronger, it may make the van ride a little harder, but I wouldn't have thought very much - my LT 35 is not a noticably hard ride even when empty.

if its a twin wheeler its more likely a 45 in which case the ride is much much harder but you get a lot less body roll
