I know that there is much bebate and discussion about just how many miles these things do to the gallon and which engine to get etc
So I thought my recent European exploits would be a perfect 'real time' opportunity to get some definitive MPG numbers for my 2.1 wasserboxer.
Thought some members might be interested

The vehicle
89 westfalia California (factory camper conversion) German Import LHD
2.1 petrol MV engine with CAT (around 11000 miles on engine) 95bhp
5 speed manual
Reads 55 MPH @ 3000 rpm (with SAT NAV)
Standard Carat 14 inch Alloys with 185/R14C tyres
Fully laden for camping with two adults and a heavy Fiamma wind out awning fitted to the gutter

I aimed at keeping 'Helga' at around 60mph (that's accurate Sat Nav not speedo, that's at about 3250rpm) which in reality meant anything between 45 and 70 depending on hills etc but for the most time 55-65.
Some sections were 2nd and 3rd for mile on mile (those going over the Alps and Alsace regions) and the lasT30 miles were laden down with 16 crates of beer and 6 cases of Rosé wine.

Measured from our local Morrisons from 'Full Tank' back to Morrisons 'Full tank.
I didn't want to get caught out running out of petrol so most fills were with the tank still reading around a third to half full.
Starting Mileage 101928
Filled at: 102137 / 33.21 litres / 7.3 gals / 209miles / 28.63mpg
102322 / 32.16 litres / 7.07 gals / 185 miles / 26.16 mpg
102479 / 27.06 litres / 5.95 gals / 157 miles / 26.38 mpg
102603 / 22.68 litres / 4.99 gals / 124 miles / 24.84 mpg
102710 / 19.99 litres / 4.4 gals / 106 miles / 24.09 mpg
102888 / 33.93 litres / 7.46 gals / 176 miles / 23.59 mpg
103059 / 36.22 litres / 7.96 gals / 171 miles / 21.48 mpg
103173 / 19.59 litres / 4.32 gals / 114 miles / 26.45 mpg
103342 / 29.97 litres / 6.59 gals / 169 miles / 25.64 mpg
103525 / 30.40 litres / 6.69 gals / 184 miles / 27.5 mpg
103699 / 30.60 litres / 6.73 gals / 174 miles / 25.85 mpg
103905 / 39.18 litres / 8.61 gals / 205 miles / 23.80 mpg
finally 104147 / 41.86 litres / 9.21 gals / 242 miles / 26.30 mpg

Finnish milege at Morrisons 3 miles from home 104147 where Helga was filled to full.

An average of 25.487 mpg over 2225 miles

She burst a coolant pipe on top of the Albis pass Switzerland and so we were held up for the weekend waiting for the garage to open, it was a great trip though.

Now I don't think that is bad at all!!!

Oil consumption over the trip 250 mill

On wings like angels whispers sweet

my heart it feels a broken beat

Touched soul and hurt lay wounded deep

Brown eyes are lost afar now sleep xxHayleyxx
