It'll probably cost you more than the price of the UK ones just for shipping...then there's import duty and VAT. Empi?? Taiwanese crap! |

By rear axles do you mean the driveshafts? or the rear arms? They are the same parts as 2WD and fairly cheap over here. With parts such as these I'd expect it's cheaper to buy them over here than have them shipped. Any parts which are 2WD are always cheaper than syncro specific parts so don't get ripped off by anyone telling you something is syncro specific when it isn't. There's a lot of folk in U.S who won't send parts to UK just because we're getting such a good deal with the exchange rate at present. For parts which are syncro specific, CJ is probably the best person to buy from and will have most parts in stock. MG |

yes sorry i meant the drive shafts lol theres an awful sounds every now and again at low speeds getting faster as i speed up or slower coming to a stop. from other posts i have read it seems to be the cv joints from what ive read. thought i might go for a full driveshaft assembly while im at it. you know cheapest place for these in uk?

If you're not sure about the cause, the cheapest option might be to have it looked at by a T3 specialist rather than replace parts which might be ok and spend money unnecesarily. I hope you don't take offence to that. A noise which increases with speed could be many many things, some of which are very expensive, some which aren't. I would suggest having the van serviced by a good vw garage. If they are worth their salt, they will check the vehicle over aswell as service it and tell you of any problems which it has. hi
no offence taken . im mainly here to listen to what others who know alot more than me about syncro and learn what i can from i. the noise isnt always there. its not a regular noise but its a loud cluncking noise at its worse and mostly i would say when i am slowing down. i had read quite alot about the noise on forums and it sounded just like what other people were describing. i shook the rear drive shaft from side to side and then set off in the van and the noise went . i got a good few miles out of it untill the noise slowly came back and i did the same by shaking about again and now it seems to have gone for now .when the noise is at its worse it sounds kind of like a tin can bouncing off something that is spinning . do you have any ideas what else it could be? thanks for your help |

Rear CV's are perhaps the easiest job to do. Messy though. Are your CV boots torn at all? Does your Syncro have more than 100K miles? A yes answer to either of these means it's about time for service anyway. Just remove them, clean them, use new OEM boots, repack and reinstall. If any are scored, pitted or discolored by heat, replace with a new Lobro joint. There are no substitutes. You can get some extra miles by flipping the axle in to out. It lets the balls push on fresher steel. If any of the bolts are partially stripped, replace with new. You will appreciate it the next time you have to remove the axle. As far as shipping overseas, I wouldn't. It's expensive enough to mail a letter. Also, support your local VW specialist when possible! |
