Hi tops! What's everyones opinion of them? I'm in the market for a T3 camper. I really want a Westy Joker but there's a smart hi top in my village. Never liked them, but it's very tidy inside and out, and the roof is colour-matched to the body (nice mid-blue). One assumes stability is somewhat lacking in crosswinds, but in reality how much difference does the high roof make? If I lower it and fit alloys, would it (and by association, I) look really sad? Cheers, A |

Had a 1988 Trident Autosleeper hightop sold it a couple of months ago and got a Gipsy to replace it, to be honest I could fit more stuff in the hightop than i can get in the gipo easily, it was perfect for what we wanted, the only disadvantages were restricted height car parks and cross winds, go for it, youll enjoy it, I did i also think they look pretty cool lowered a tad.

Thanks! I'm considering it. To be honest, it's not actually for sale, but I reckon there'd be a chance the guy would sell it if he knew I was interested...

Not my thing at all.
Mine is my daily (or will be) at the moment, so the height thing would be an issue. I also dont really like the look of them. Having said that, there are a few lowered hightops sat on tasty wheels kicking about, and they can look pretty cool... Horses for courses... Not too long ago, a campervan was the last thing I ever wanted, so I bought a Bluestar... and now I have a Westy |

I did have one it had plenty of storage, depends on what your intentions are but I dont think its practical for daily driver.I would go for a nice big high top if you go for one as this makes a great 4 berth.

I previously had a T3 hi top but now I have a solid sided pop top. If I was to change my van for something newer I would deffo go for a later model hi top. I suppose that my ideal T3 would be a 'G' or 'H' Reg. Caravelle with a hi top & camping interior fitted. Only problem is that I can't afford my ideal at the moment. Hi tops have loads of storage space for bedding etc 'upstairs'. When I arrive wherever in my pop top, the roof has to be raised & all spare gear has to be stored 'upstairs' eg.whilst on site/at a show. Then whenever I need to drive away the gear has to be re-stowed 'downstairs' & the roof lowered. All this messing about is a nuissance at the best of times but the after a late night it becomes a pain in the ar$e when you have to pack up & go home in the (late) morning.

ive got a hi top and to tell the truth dont really notice it.when i bought it the hi top was the last thing i wanted, but now ,i take it every where, school run ,shopping visiting i have a bmw and that just sits on my drive.with the wind issue mine is lowered but when its windy i feel it in my swb transit and that not a high top so it dont bother me in the camper.

I had a high top and thought I could never better it for space and headroom. Then I saw a Reimo pop top which is not as flat as a pop top, but not as high as a high top. Best of both worlds. |

I have recently bought a Hitop, a 1988 T3 Holdsworth Vision Conversion. I wonder if anyone can put me in the direction of a Holdsworth Conversion Brochure for this model. I'm very much the new kid on the block. After 5 various Motorhomes/Campers this is my first VW. I'm quite impressed by it. It's my first Hitop and it handles very comfortably. True there is a touch of sidewind resistance but nothing to worry about. Forgive my ignorance but what is the difference between T3 and T3.

Apologies, I should have typed T3 in a couple of places to make more sense of my last posting. |

What I meant to say was what is the difference between T three and T twenty five. Hope that this gets through.
