Topic: Hacking the rear suspension for 18x11’s Posted: 10 Jun 07 at 16:47 |
Hi There, Just thought I'd ask the question on here if anyone know's anyone that's making altered hubs to fit 120pcd wheels. The MK motorsport 18x11's were off an 8 series but need to fit the bus As photo: Just refurbed them and tried them against the bus for the first time and they look crap. Anyone done away with the springs and gone coil over shock? I need to set the rears in around 50mm to get it anywhere near not looking stupid! Any ideas. Stuart. Edited by HanoverHeritage |

Oh boy fitting 11's to the back of a T3! Didn't we just do this ?! http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=15120& amp;PN=3 Anywho... they will fit but you will need to alter a few things to get them in. It all comes down to the wheel offset and how much time you're prepared to put into it. I tried a pair of 18X11's on the back of my Bluestar just to see what they'd look like and if they'd fit. These are fitted as close as possible to the rear arms without catching.. but if I jacked up the van the wheel would catch on the rear spring top mount. The tyres are 295/30/18s and the tread was under the arch just but the bulge of the tyre wasn't. If you want to get them under the arch, a) you're going to have to lower it a lot as the negative camber really helps, b) you're going to have to modify both the rear arm at the front inner corner and that spring top support and maybe run coil overs at the back to get rid of the springs and c) you're going to have to spend lots of time working out what thickness spacers to run to get the wheels sitting just right. Oh forgot to add, there are adaptors for 5X112 to 5X120 PCD on ebay from time to time. I think the guy that advertises the 5X112 to 5X130 adaptors can have them made for you. MG |

Hi Mike, or at least I think it's you? I know you've just had a thread on the same topic but had to ask the questions about the coil overs ect..... Only trouble with running adapters on these wheels is that due to the offset( not sure what it is at this moment but as you can see from the picture of the 8 series ) I get your point on the camber, does it really help that much? Hoping someone on here would no the guy thats making the repositioned hubs? What springs were you running on the bluestar? thats a nice height. Regards, Stuart.

Stuart, I'm running H&R springs and Koni shocks supplied by Charlie at T3 Tuning. I think (don't quote me on this) they're a 65mm drop. The suspension isn't on the bump stops and it rides fairly well with the added bonus that the shocks are adjustable. How wide are the fronts? They look fairly huge aswell. Yes the negative camber on the rear wheels makes a huge difference to how much the tops of the wheel (figuratively speaking) tucks in. If I jack up my van so that it's sitting at about stock height, the tyre sticks out from the van. MG |

Yeh the fronts are going to be a bit of a problem as well. There 18 x 9.5 on the front. I realise I'll have to tub the inner arch to get a decent lock but not sure on any other problems. Do you know to anyone who's running air on their T3? Just an idea to eliminate the spring bracket catching. It would be nice to do away with the spring and OG shock and have lever arm shock. Stuart. |

I think you might 'struggle' to fit 9.5's on the front. Seriously, in the pic above I'm running 8's up front and the tyres were in line with the wheel arch and about 3mm away from the top suspension arm. There isn't physically any more space for wider wheels. You will suceed in fitting 11's on the rear with work but I can't see the 9.5's going on the front. MG |
