not sure where to put this...

i want to build a full on td (not tdi) engine..

now im just learning diesels so bare with me..

im sure i read somthing about it being posible to put tdi crank in a td block. ?

what turbo options are there.. ?

whats the best off the shelf pump to run..

i have a nice intercooler, lots of stainless bits for an exhaust.. and a few other bits and bobs..  need some more info on what could be good..

WHY T3's.... because they are just so adictive, and having one just aint enough

Start with a AAZ put an early tdi crank in. Main bearing caps need some sort of bracing or they will break. Ported exhaust ports. Metal head gasket. Hybrid clutch JX one will quickly die. K24 turbo about right. No off the shelf pumps for ultimate performance or injectors. Straight through exhaust. Air/water intercooler much better than air to air in these things. Oil cooling, it will get way too hot with standard pathetic system.

Thats it, then power is determind on how much fuel you want to use and how long you want it to last!

There are some cams availabe from passenger performance in Canada, I've been thinking of a bulk buy if theres a few of us wanting them?

There are 2 heads for the AAZ, some with 8mm valve stems and some with 7mm, people seem to fit the 7mm ones as they flow better, and they can be fitted into engines that originally had 8mm stems.

Lightening and balancing is okay apparently, but no real need unless you are going for massive power.

Usual petrol style mods work, porting, 3 angle valve jobs and the like but polishing on the inlet isn't so popular as you reduce the amount of turbulence in the inlet tract, and you need a bit of turbulence to aid air fuel mixing.

Spec for mine, when I eventually get around to building again (it's been sat since christmas!)

1.9l AAZ

TDI crank and pulley.
Ported head.
3 angle valve job.
Gunna try a K24, Also got a T2 and K14
Pace charge cooler.
K&N appollo
Oil cooler (already fitted)
Modest boost (about 1 bar)
EGT, Boost, oil pressure and oil temp gauges
Water injection (I would like to look into controlling it by temp rather than boost though)
1Y inlet manifold.

Checking piston protrusion and fitting the correct size head gasket is a must.

Oh, AAZ injection pump, 10mm or 11mm head and rotor with JX pump top.

Aim is not for massive power, just a sensible amount to make lugging a loaded Westy around a little easier, the 'box thats in is already a AAR (AAP but with LSD) and rear tyres are slightly taller.

I would have a cam off you.

Oh i forgot on my last list, you need 2 of everything for when it lets go and then second time turn everything down alot.

So, i think I will be keeping the stock exhaust and just removing the discs in there, somehow. probably with a hole saw, and airgun and a long extrension!

Did you hear clives exhuast at the weekend, its a 2.5" straight through with a sound absorbing silencer, it sounds good. Mine is straight through 3" and sounds different. If you remove the discs there is no sound absorbtion.

Mine has a certain amount of calm

where can you buy a tdi crank - did you guys buy new?

Have got a spare AAZ sitting there, think its a good un, ready to be stuck in
over the winter and a bit of poke extracted!

oh, and what boost can you get out of a K14 before you need to upgrade to
K24? have got a brand new K14 ready...

fount out yesturday the engine ive just got is a passat gt type engine with the better injectors and pump..

are these worth using on an AAZ or still stick with the aaz stuff..

trying to look for and AAZ local.. missed a good one not long back

I got a tdi crank with my new AAZ, the only real difference is a better design for the cam belt pulley but if you put a new pulley and bolt on your AAZ it will be fine.

K14 is way to small to start upping boost with huge increase in exhaust temperatures. My k24 is too small for mine at high revs.
