When my 1.6td syncro warms up I get the following problems;

1) The throttle appears to stick on even though the cable seems ok, if you change up a gear the revs stay at the same level even after you take your foot off the throttle, although when you let the clutch out then revs get dragged down to a normal level. When the vehicle is cold it doesn't do this but seems pretty constant once its warmed up.

2) When the above happens the engine gets smokey blowing out white/grey smoke throughout the rev range but smokes more when the engine is under load. Is this purely too much fuel?

3) This happens all the time - If you change up and it causes the revs to drop below 2000 revs then the engine won't pull, do I just need to make sure I change up at higher revs or is there a problem? From my days learning to drive and driving HGV's and old Land Rovers I remember you could get torque at revs lower than 2000 rpm !

On a syncro note is the engine guard under the engine easily removable to get to the sumpe etc? I have a slight oil leak I need to check out

just remembered the cold start lever has been screwed into the dash. the previous owner said that the diesel pump had been tweaked - is this normal or part of my problem??

Sounds like he has given the injection pump too much fuel.

thanks baxter - that was my novice first guess, from what I can glean from doing a search on here the setup of the pump needs specialist equipment ?

The rear belly pans are heavy, dont get in its way when it drops.

There easy to remove, though.Smile
