    Posted: 02 May 07 at 14:23

Ive recently purchased a LLE from germany, which has had a 1.9 TDI (AFN) fitted.

At the docks in holland the clutch gave out.

Fitted a new clutch *1 and Complete mass fly wheel kit which have both taken the centre out of the pressure plate.

Does anyone have any suggestions and can anyone tell me if a flywheel from a 1.6 td jx engine will fit this 1.9tdi afn one

PS:

I think the problems are between the starter and the fly wheel

when you try to start it sounds like it is sort of missing ??

it could be a millioin and one things, so many ways of doing it.

You need to pull out what you got, identify it and replace it.

Dual mass flywheels are useless on the cars they were designed for, a t3 is not designed for a dual mass. A JX flywheel will fit but won't handle the torque for long. Use a early tdi flywheel and pressure plate with a waterboxer clutch disc.

Dont know what a dual mass flywheel is but my flywheel that came with the Golf 1z engine is twice as thick as the 1.6 td one is, has a 1 1/2" chunk of extra metal behind the ring gear( engine side).  Mine rubbed against the 1.6 jx starter motor and burned it out eventually.

Is it slow turning over the engine, similiar to when your battery is flat.

The way around this is to get the extra chunk machined slightly so it does'nt rub against the starter motor.

I ground a little of the end of the starter motor were the bush is (not the shaft end), and this cured it. Not the best way to do it though as the next person to replace the starter will destroy it.

Mine has the complete 1z Golf fly wheel/ clutch/ pressure plate setup with the tdi input shaft and it has not caused any problems with the clutch.

Had to grind the timing mark of the pressure plate as this was catching the bellhousing. Just stamped the flywheel were the timing mark was, not that i could ever time one up.LOL

Maybe some of this may help. ?
