Topic: 10 or 11mm Bolts on rear brake drum/hub?? Posted: 30 Apr 07 at 21:18 |
Hi All,
Just fitted some wheels and noticed that they will not fit square on the rear due to 2x 10mm or 11mm bolts, Are these crucial to my safety or the working of the brakes?
Or are they just for location purposes like on the front disks of every car i have owned?
Surely the huge nut in the middle holding the bearing assembly and drum are what hold my rear axles together!!!!!
Your advice please!!!

Location only, when the wheel is bolted back it holds the drum where it should be!

GBT3... the one use I have found for the bolts, is to keep the threads clean on the drum. At first, I fitted some grubscrews to to the job.
Then after buying some 6mm wheel spacers, (from Brickwerks, of course), I found that with a tiny bit of grinding, the original bolts will fit back in.
However, as Smurf and others have already said, there's no problem or safety issue, with no bolts at all!
