Ask Aidan (PM Beaker on club80-90/co.uk, not sure on brick-yard)... its Good, but you do need those measuring tools to do the diff properly, and to assemble some other bits AFAIK

Hi Hillshy yes i have rebuilt my gearbox, did get alot of the parts (beraings, rebuilt kit and the cd) from long entprz very good company to deal with,Got 5 ton press, dial gauge, soft hands and a keen eye.The box is a 4 speed dk out of a early air cooled van.Don't know if i have got it all right yet, will have to wait for test drive, which looks along way off.
I try to keep smiling even when asleep.

"I have a 2.1 aap that's broke but nevertheless it can be repaired,"

Maybe

From what I've seen so far, can't always be taken for granted, some shafts, particularly pinion shafts can be u/s and hard to get now, all depending of course..

PS. Measurements/clearances are taken during stripdown, so if you strip it down check what these might be first...

now I've swapped the pump, the hideous hunting is gone for good!!,and took it out for a spin,

bearing in mind the rev counter is out ---at 1600rpm dash reading its actually 2000rpm on the laptop (will recalibrate the pot soon)

I'm getting a reading of 2700rpm @70

and 1800 rpm @50  both in top. *(edited-had it written wrong)

Feels longer legged, and the jump to 5th is only a bit "overdrivey" if you're already powering up a big hill, and even then it soon deals with it!

Only bummer is that the original odd misfire jolt around 70 is still lurking!!!---very odd.....still,it ain't pissing on my parade...I'm pleased with the results!

Have you checked and re-checked your injector pipe connections, I had this when hot, and Simon suggested same... I looked and looked and then finally saw it, just one union from the pump head giving the occasional drip, and it felt like it was running on three cylinders.

Slacken all off and re-nip up the unions maybe.. unless you have already.

will do,although these have been on and off a lot lately. Not 100% sure on the injectors being totally sealed either...it ain't easy keeping 16,000 psi at bay!!!

You could try the milliamp test to see what cylinder it might be, if you've come across it.. measuring the mA of the glo plugs when running. This is used by some to set the timing, partic. on Merc Diesels.

Think I can find the link to that again, its how they equalise the timing for the best and worst cylinders.

blimey millipede test eh!!Not heard of that before!Yep,I'll try anything to shift that jolt. Thanks Harry,if you can find the link.

Nigel, the 110's are in,a little bubbly on at least one injector,(no matter how many times I strip them down, meticulously clean them, and reinstall with new copper washer)...might need a special "nip up" on the heavy side,or better still aquire some genuine 110 injectors from an AFN etc, will look into that too.

When we had the dodgey pump still on,and couldn't trim the fuelling right,we took the van for a spin, all bit smokey etc,and the thing took off like a raging beast,(huge blue/white cumulo nimbus left behind)--I think I'd been expecting that kind of performance to still be with us now its running "correct",and literally smokeless now(last nights run soon burnt off the residue that was in the pipework),but have to say it just feels like the old injectors,or even a little less impressive at the mo.It still motors, but maybe when dicking around with injector nozzles it takes a few plays with the vagcom settings to get it happy.

Oh,and cheers!!
