Fuel Filter

   Hi All
Got a 1.9 with a fuel filter just down wind of the carburettor.  Did VW fit one from new in this position?  
I have another one, underneath by the fuel tank which I think is standard.  I am thinking of removing the one by the carburettor due to the obvious fire risk.  Is this wise?

	Sure they only had the 1 fitted as standard underneath by the tank.
