Hi i have a vw transporter T3 ive recently fitted new wheel bearings and discs and pads to the front. After driving for a while and i come to stop when i get out theres a smell coming from the front wheels also they feel hot to touch and the covers where the bearings are any ideas thanks for reading.

Have you over tightened the bearings? You should be able to move the washer when the nut is done up.

As above. You can almost do them to the correct tight ness with just a socket on the nut no ratchet.
Same proncipal as mk1 2 &3 golfs etc |
