2.5 tdi 130 hp from 2004 mini bus, the front left brake has started binding, can nearly not touch the wheel. Hope it's not another effed calliper. Please tell me I'm wrong anybody🤞🙏.

Possibly corrosion on the piston ?  Do they salt the roads in your area ?

Is it the (12 year old) original caliper ?

Yeh, haven't changed the front calipers, only the rear ones.
Roads are salted fairly regularly here.
Hummmmm, sounds like I'll ave to fork out for calipers, unlesssssss, I get lucky and I can sort of clean the crud out from behind the rubber gaiters and removed the rusty bits🤞🙏?!

How much is a new caliper?

I had the same problem with my calipers when they got to about 11 years old. Stripping, cleaning and coppergreasing only lasted a short time. In the end it was new calipers, end of problem, approx £75 each.

The pistons always get pitted with corrosion over time (worse if the brake fluid changes haven't been kept up).  It's worth making sure the pads are free to move in the carrier but beyond that it's a new caliper needed.  Most front calipers will be on an exchange basis so don't be surprised to pay a hefty deposit.

Avoid caliper repair kits, they belong in the dangerous past!
