Hello everyone.

My 54 plate T5 looks like it’s engine needs replacing, it currently has a 2.5 axd engine that is goosed. The gearbox is 6 speed automatic.

I’m looking to replace the 2.5 engine with a 1.9

Will a 1.9 engine work with the existing 6 speed automatic gearbox?

Is it a straight swap?

Are any conversion parts needed?

Many thanks,

Rob.

From what I know (I own a 1.9 and I've worked of friends 2.5's).

Not a straight swap. Different for most things.

Hopefully somone else will be along on the bellhousing - AFAIK the 2.5s are different to the 1.9's but the 2.0 (T5.1 etc.) is the same as the 1.9.

Engine mounts are different.

You will need the ECU and engine harness from the 1.9 at the very least.

Unless the 1.9 is remapped it will be slow compared to the 2.5 by quite some margin.
