I've got fault code P261A 00, read with VCDS, plus the coil light flashing and it's in limp home mode. Checked everything to the auxiliary pump and everything is ok.
On starting the engine you can feel the pump running. But it stops after around 3 - 4 seconds. The relay opens after maybe 3 to 4 seconds.
At this point I get the coil and eml flashing and Stop Start Error displayed.
It's in constant limp home mode.
I've monitored the voltage at the pump during the few seconds the pump runs. It's healthy at 13V+.
The auxiliary water pump was faulty (open circuit) I've replaced it with a new Bosch pump.
I also had an intermittent fault logged relating to the relay controlling the pump. "Intermittent open circuit". Since clearing this it hasn't returned.
This fault started just after it had it's MOT. I'm wondering if the full throttle smoke test has done something?
But I'm now baffled. No other codes are logged.
I'm a novice with VCDS but I've tried to check the obvious stuff like:
Ambient tempurate.
Atmospheric pressure
Volts
Intake tempurature etc.
When  I ran auto scan it picked some additional codes to do with
The instrument cluster
Key and
Emergency light activated which I hadn't found until I did the auto scan. But I don't think they're related to my limp home, stop start, auxilary water pump issue are they?
Also VCDS won't communicate with the ABS.
I'll post the scan results below.
It's been off the road for 3 weeks now and I've run out of ideas so any help would be great.

Pump runs so you have 12v and ground.  Ecu says open circuit so it suggests the wire between pump and ecu might be broken.  Diagram shows it as a blue wire with green tracer on pin 3 of the three pin plug on the pump.

Assumes the pump is a goid one of course- won't be the first time I've fitted new parts that were dud.

TT

Thanks for the reply.
I'm feeling pretty dumb right nowErmm Turns out Crafters have TWO auxiliary water pumps. I have found and replaced one at the rear of the engine which WAS definitely faulty. I'm guessing that one is for the heater circulation? A simple 2 wire pump.
I've now found (what I assume) is the for real egr cooler pump. A 3 wire pump. Located under the expansion tank at the front of the engine.
I'll test that one tomorrow and let you know how I get on.

Ahh...

Yup 2 wire pump is for heater and is controlled by heater switch.

3 wire pump for egr cooling - hence limp mode if it isn't working.

This is really frying my head nowSleepy

I've replaced the egr cooler pump. The pump runs fine with the engine running and continues to run for a short time after the engine is turned off.

BUT. The code won't re set. The coil light flashes and the eml is on and its still in limp home mode.

The replacement pump is a First Line, so not cheap junk.

I'd be checking the wiring from pump to ecu - as above.

The pump running means you have 12v and ground but there may not be a signal to the ecu.

I'm getting 3.5V at the connection, along with 12V and ground. So I think the ecu is connected to the pump?
But yes I'll try to trace the wiring back to the ecu.
VW want 108 quid to just do a diagnostic scan:-( which will probably tell me what I already know "open circuit to auxiliary water pump"

Yeah, sorted at last😊
I took a chance and bought another pump. A Pierbourg one, which is the original fitment. Code reset, stop start working, no limp home.
Now to try and get my £105 back from the local motor factors for the junk First Line branded one.

You've been unlucky with the pump fior sure - I'd seen some warnings about cheap chinese ebay ones but I woukd have expected bettter from a decent size outfit.

Still I'm glad I usually fit original or good OEM. Pierburg should be spot on.

Glad it works now.

I'd found a few threads which had exactly the same symtoms but no one had actually finished the thread with an outcome. But I had also found the odd one with aftermarket stuff not being recognised by the ecu. I broke my own rule (trying to get it sorted quickly) by not getting oem or dealer parts for this sort of stuff.
Lesson learntSmile
