Hi - am new here, so hope this is the right place to post this. Apologies if not...

We've a 1987 LT50, built up as a horse-box. It's been very reliable for years, but last Autumn suddenly stopped starting. Our local garage replaced a relay, and then it would go if jump-started and the starter-motor hit with a hammer. So he then replaced the battery (twice) and starter-motor (once), but it hasn't solved the problems. The battery seems, as far as we can work out, not to charge properly, and the new starter also seems to stick.

Can anyone point us towards what to try next? Or does anyone know an LT-guru not too far from us (Worcestershire/Herefordshire border)?

Many thanks.

Ensure that the body earth for the battery is in good condition.
My solenoid contacts wore away and gave me a few days of grief. As yet a replacement has not been found so a new starter was the only fix.
There is no relay in the starter system.

The Manuals section has current flow diagrams.

The link to the map above is to replace the ZeeMaps link which turned chargeable last year.

Hi - yes! It turned out that when we'd first had problems the garage we normally go to had changed a relay that had gone, and fitted the wrong one. I had a local auto-electrical guru come round and he located the mistake in about 10 minutes and plugged the correct one in. All the weird electrical problems have vanished.
