today I got the check engine oil yellow light with the wavy line under it.....the oil level is fine. I’ve read on here that this warning light actually means the coolant is low??? Checked the coolant and the level is ok too. Can some kind person please confirm exactly what the yellow can with the wavy light means? I can’t find this symbol in the manuals anywhere.....thanks in advance. ps. The light has not come back on since I completed the level checks....

An amber/yellow pic of an oil can with drops from the spout means oil level.  Some cars do have the wavy line underneath as well but it means the same.  A red light with an oil can means oil pressure (switch off asap!)  The coolant level light is very different being a pic of a thermometer.  They are separate symbols denoting different things. Yours is the oil level light from your description.  You can see them here.  https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/warning-lights#c038-filtered-tabs-container_yellow

Once the oil level light is on (on an old model T5 at least) the bonnet must be opened and closed in order to get rid of it. (Sounds daft but it's true).  The sensor for the oil level or the wiring can be faulty leading to the light coming on even when the level is correct.  Make sure the van is on level ground before checking the oil on the dipstick.  It only takes half a litre low or so on the old 2.5's to put the light on an engine which holds over 7 litres a slight slope can muck up the result.

It's always best to say which van you have btw. Thumbs Up

Thank you for clarifying T5 TDI - I should have stated it’s a 2005 Caravelle TDi 130 manual. If it comes on again I’ll get the sensor/wiring checked.
