Side door sliding window leak

   Hej chaps
Ian the sweaty sock from Denmark with the 2004 2.5tdi 130hp mini bus here.
With the correct side wind and rain, the water fairly howls through the sliding window. Any suggestions on how to fix it, ie replace the rubber seal or sort of frig it? Cheers.

	VW OEM windows or aftermarket ? IIRC the OEM ones were known to leak, there was some speculation that the cause was because they didn't leave any drain holes in the mounting glue on the outside for the water to get away. Depending on whether (pun intended) you wanted to be able to open the window or not a quick-n-nasty temporary fix would be some weatherproof tape around the opening, or some silastic (silicone) as a semi-permanent fix. 	Ah, that’s a wee bit drastic, but I did ask if there was a way to frig it. If I push slightly the sliding part tighter onto the non sliding window, the noise stops and the rain stops coming in. I was thinking about using a Dremel with a small bit to first elongate the locating hole then fill the original hole with very hard plastic padding or the likes. Then hopefully the rubber gasket would get pressed harder against the non sliding window. But first I would need to take the whole frame out to be able to do a pukkah job and not a total botch up. Any comments? Ps hope you can understand my gibberish.

	Sorry, forgot to answer your 1st question, I think they are still original rubber seals. I had the bus in not long after I bought about 12 years ago, it to get the leak sorted. Worked ok for a long time. But now worse than ever.

	Sorry, without looking at the problem in person I'm not sure I've got any other ideas that would work. There might be a lot of pressure on any extra hard plastic in the original hole. Is it possible to add another layer on to the gasket that's not sealing properly ? (literally coming at the problem from the other end).

	Maybe like a soft “O” ring thingy super glued to the gasket?! Could be an ok plan. I’ll hunt around for some suitable material and give it a go with some shitty glue to see if it works and if lucky I’ll fire some super glue under it. Although I’ve noticed in the past when gluing o rings together for hydraulics and other stuff, that super glue works best when there is no movement involved. But I transgress. I’ll give it a bash.

	Or maybe look at soft gaskets designed for doors, or strips of soft rubber from a rubber goods specialist ? Some of them come with adhesive tape backing.

	Anyway, I finally managed to get the window out, after 12 years of trying, suddenly I saw the light and seen how the bits of plastic covers just sort of popped off and with some gentle leverage the thingies popped up and out of the guide rail grooves. After removing the rubber seal, I tried placing some wire from an electric cable under the seal, in its groove. No luck. I then found some thin stainless steel fixers wire and sort of tucked this all the way around the seal therefore making it stick up a wee bit more. Fitted the window again. Had it out on a run today, and at least now there are no complaints from my kids about the drought blowing past the seal. Just have to wait for a severe side wind with lashings of rain to see if the frigged seal keeps the water out. If no luck then it’s of to Germany to buy a new seal, now that I can how easy it is to remove the window .
