Hi All,
Just wondering what coolant your using, the diesel manual say to use G10, but, I'm guessing as it over 20year old, things might have altered. Mines a LT35 with 2.4 acl engine. thanks, jammy |

Was using the green stuff... G10 equivalent. Changed to the purple G13? ...anyway the latest VW spec stuff as the G10 was getting hard to find. Does the job but it's not as easy to see the level in the header and doesn't look as cool as the flourecent green. What's in yours currently? I advise to stick to what's already been going in if it's done a good job up till now.

Hi, no idea what's in there, haven't hand the van long, it's a florescent orange colour, van runs on the hot side, not maxing out on the gauge, but, a good 3/4s on it.

It would be worth swapping the thermostat also, maybe sticking.
If the coolant isn't clean i'd recommend several full flushes using a good flushing agent. Depending how far you want to go if you are unsure on what maintenance it has had there is also the water pump, they are known for failing on the impellers...... Welcome to LT life.......

Flush it... serveral times like the Robbydoo says. Use a compressor if you can. Run the engine a little between flushes? Make sure all that orange is out. Refil with a VW spec coolant & distilled water once your sure there are no obvious blockages. Orange is not a VW coolant as far as I know so better out than in. Think you can pull thermostat & check it works by popping it in some hot water. Some thermostats have work at a higher temp. so check when buying. There are a few threads mentioning that on here so search...
Yep, maybe worth doin water pump n cam belt / tensioner / idler if you are unsure of history anyway. If you pull one of the pipes closest to the water pump you may be able to get a closer look at the back of the pump with one of those little inspection cameras to check the impellar (just an idea) if you don't want to go for cam/ belt / wp change. Have a look at the front of WP for any leaks. There is a tiny weep hole built in... another sign of a failing WP. ACL also has a little electric Aux water pump. Oil can gunk up in the intercooler too (if you got one) not sure how much that'd effect your overall cooling but it will effect intake cooling. Lots of things to check. Is it running hot all the time or does it settle down when idling? Fan kickin' in OK? Got all it's blades? Edited by Monster LT - 21 Mar 18 at 00:09 |
