Recently fitted a new water pump following overheating problem ( T3 1985 )
After about 40 miles overheated again.
Then discovered fan was not kicking in, replaced radiator switch only to find the first stage fan doesn't kick in but 2nd stage does when red light comes on
Temperature gauge shows temp at around 3/4
What's happening???

if you search on here there is a guide on how to bleed the system thoroughly , its more involved than just the bleed screw on the rad but simple to do if you follow Simons guide

No one mentioned the 'thermostat'. Could be defective?

If you drive locally, then an 88'c item is OK.
If you drive south, reduce that to 80'c.

One thing to mention, do you have the old cooling system (with the two big rubber pipes running above the engine, or the later system, no big rubber pipes up that high.

The earlier systems can be a little bit tricky to get all the air out of, watch for that.
