Could it be earth related? I'd check the engines earthed to the chassis... Bit out of my knowledge zone but that's what springs to mind. A lot of engines are earthed via the gearbox/starter motor so once you break the connection it doesn't always form an new connection? Sure someone will have a better idea shortly!

Welcome Thumbs Up  It could be a wire on the gearbox left off.  Or a small break in a wire inside the loom if it's been pulled.  See this also- http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/01166

Were there any starting issues before work started ?

Is the starter turning the engine over at the normal cranking speed ?  If it doesn't reach a certain RPM the ECU won't signal the injectors to supply fuel.

Also if compression is too low you won't get ignition (this is mostly a problem for early 2.5L engines that had cams and followers made of poor quality metal).

If the various ECUs aren't receiving full 12v or have a poor earth then all sorts of weird problems/faults can occur (and it is even worse if more than 14.5V - but that is unlikely to be happening here if the engine won't start).

IIRC the flashing glow plug light can be caused by several different causes (and very few are actually related to glow plug problems).  Maybe do an advanced search (with any date set) to see if any threads might be helpful.

Ok finished engine electrics
Noticed water fan Module Cortes on close inspection cleaned up
And van starts first time
Did bit of research in this and found if temp sensor to this reads incorrect will turn heater plugs off. After reading other people with starting problems I would check this and heater plug loom as this was in poor state and possibly shorting
Would like to thank every one for help
Also if any one in Dorset needs to use timeline took for 2.5 pd I have one they could use
Regards Mike

Thanks for the update. Clap  Sounds like the original non-start problem was just the fact that parts of the loom had become brittle and simply moving it during the engine work finished them off.

The torque signal fault code is to do with the auto box but if it doesn't come back I wouldn't worry for now.

Kind offer on the cam timing tools.  Thumbs Up  Where did you get your new cam from?  On 2.5's, cam wear normally goes unnoticed until they get very bad and start the classic popping back through the air filter box.  I might even need to take you up on your offer for mine one day!
