Hi Sid,

Been a couple of months since your last post.... is the 1.8T still running fine on your std box and do you have any more figures for your MPG averaged out over what must be a couple of thousand miles by now.

Cheers

Sorry been busy
Yes the van has some miles on it
Still drives wonderful.
I use it every week end
Going to do a 500 mile trip on weekend
I'll see what it does mileage wise.
Keep you posted.

Glad your conversion plate has worked out fine Sid.

After a lot of deliberation over the last 18 months or so I have now decided not to spend out on an upgraded gearbox to get the best out of a TDI conversion, instead I am now taking a more serious look at going down the same route as yourself with the 1.8t on a std box.

It seems its well proven in the states but not so popular over here - probably something to do with fuel prices! no so much of an issue if your not doing high miles.

On a round trip of 575 miles it took 100 pounds of fuel.
But saying that it depends on how you drive, load and weather
I do drive 80 and above so it wasn't that bad.
Being a box, not much of aerodynamic

That's good
You got a good choice in petrol,
Starting from 150bhp to 230 on standard engines.
The choice is there to take it upto 300 if want to

That is gooooood, if my maths is right that's around 33-34 mpg.

150bhp would be plenty for me, I'm only interested in the torque for the hills not top end. 70 is about the max i go with most of the time around 65. A 2.0 gti would probably be fine but there is something quite appealing about having a 1.8t in the back

grate thread just had a read through, i am just enbarking on a upright 20v install in my doka using a adapter plate and coustom fly wheel. should be relatively straight forward as the adapter plate allows me to go from a wbx fly wheel too any vag in line 4 including oil burning variants.

Is that the FAS plate and flywheel? if so I was also looking at that for the fact of bolting straight onto a wbx box. However am now going to fit a 2.0 GTI with the diesel bits I have had hanging around for a few years.

If I still feel I need more power then the 1.8t will be next.

And some of us have managed to get through life without hearing it at all, but it did eminate from the states so that's my excuse.

So now I have stuck my hand up for being a thick twat - can you share with us where that nice looking bit of kit comes from, Kennedy, h2o, or do we have another firm producing decent gear.

its not kennedy fas or h2o,

but its from a reputable manufacture thats been making them for years.

it uses the 228mm wbx clutch so it can be sourced almost any where.
