well I have managed to find my self a mk1 caddy on ebay looks okay from a few feet away but when you get up close the new "spray job" that has been done looks like the guy has done it with a vacume cleaner, so that is one of the jobs to do on it, body wise the caddy aint too bad, needs a gerneral tidy up really and a bit of welding on the bed but other wise pretty sound (will get some pictures up when I get my finger out Smile)

I have fliped the car on its side today to have a look under it and to see the damage... to find the worlds most shit lowering job ever, thats the first job to sort, running cut springs on the front and an axle flip on the back being held together with wood with the saddles still on top of the axle and a brake limeter made of adehsive tape. so I have decided to run coilovers on the front but the back i am abit unsure on. if I am running just a normal axle flip eg no spacers/lowering blocks or what ever they are called, do I need to run shorter shocks too or will the standard ones do ?

will get some pictures up soon Smile cheers

thanks for those links much apreciated right I have found the info on the shocks ish ... it says pre 68 bettle shocks, but is that front or rear? and would you happen to know any part numbers ?

right some photos

okay so this is how it looked when I got it back home, like I said not a bad paint job from a few feet away but close up ....

considering it was only sprayed last year Confused
the first hurdle came acctually trying to get it off the trailor took about an hour in the pouring rain because it was low and they had bodged some side exit exhaust on ...

right so the first thing I did was get one side jack to have a look underneath, whist it was up there I changed the front brake pads they were knackerd.

I decided to start taking the wood out to see what lurks under there ... so far so good.

was better than I thought it would be, need to sort them shit repairs out though.

couldnt really see under it very well so decided to flip it and well I was plestently surprised ....

(after i removed the fuel tank and spare tyre ) looks pretty tidy

bit of sand blasting to do an a couple of repairs but over all pretty solid.

oh and if any of you have any split pipes apparently selotape is a good fixWacko

right onto the suspension what a mess ! cut springs on the front

flipped back axle with no saddles and spaced with wood !!

will get some more photos as work progresses at the minute I am looking for a fuel tank mine is absolutly shot and a cut off the load bed between the two cross members maybe 12"x18" so I can make some repair patches of of them  so if you have anything PM or reply to this I will post a wanted add too Smile

ah spot on will get them ordered then. I have just ordered some propper saddles for the axle flip and am sorting some coilovers out for the front. I am planning on keeping it for a while, well untill the van is done atleast. I am going to sort it though, the bottom is being sand blasted then treated, then dealing with all the shit bodges then am gonna sort that spray job out on topThumbs Up

well bit of an update, not had much chance to do anything been absolutly flat out, nurserys busy season that and the weather, working out side in the rain aint fun. well any way a few photos.....

stripped off the repair patches

these were just stuck over the bad bits with filler :/ ...

cut all the bad out

welded the fist peice into the chassis rail treated it with some vatcan and some galvanising spray paint...

got the bed repair in, just got to grind the welds off...

vatcaned the back side, will do the front when I get it tidyed up abit.

I have done the hole below it the same but forgot to take photos

I have also fliped the rear axle using some propper saddles, I did this while the axle was on but again forgot to take photos, but i have now decided to take it off and blast it and paint it, do the job properly.

bought some beetle shocks for the flip the other day but when I got them home

... took them back and they swaped them for me so they will go back on after it has been painted. also bought some more goodies all waiting till the time is right..

I was afer a caddy on ebay, all the bits that I needed to finish my project and even an AAZ engine... look on ebay tonight to check and it has been ended early. so that idea is down the pan any way shall keep looking. hopefully it should progress abit faster now things are slacking off :)

Yeah dude I am painting all the repairs as I go along just forgot to take the photos of that bit .... But yeah getting the welding sorted there are a couple of bits on the load bed to do a small price on the sill and where the bed joins to the arches on both sides need sorting.... Then blasting it and stone chopping / waxoiling the underneath , replacing the brake pipes, painting the axle up, re fitting sorting the tank then back on its feet for prep for the respray :)

at the minute i have got to start thinking colours. i have decided black but i am now undecided weather to go just plain black or black with some kind of metal flake in it maybe somthing like this -----> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350386463486?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
or
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350564326541?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

if not what colours do you recon would look good flaked into black ? or just straight black ? (gloss btw)

opinons please :D

to be black the body has to be super straight or it will look shit.

is it straight enough?
