well got some tax today and spent a couple of hours generally blasting about to make sure everything was ok (didnt have the roof open tho as the weather was toss). Got an idvisory on play on osf bearing so nipped that up a touch and out i went. I was very pleased with how the 2.1 went in the panel, off the mark its goes like fuck still got enough power to have a bit of tail out fun on the roundabouts so had a smile on my face most of the afternoon. really need to swap the front springs and shock tho as it rides toss on the front at moment, think we might be on chopped springs.
anyway had to go and donate the merc wheels to my velle thats sat waiting for some tlc coz i needed a decent standard wheel as a spare for the van, took some pics while i was there just coz i felt like it even though there not that good
Then i tought i best make sure this fits in ok still as it was a long time since i had it in the van and couldnt remember how much of a chew it was to fit in. now im on the road going to go for a play tommorow and have a day off playing with van

You have two? That's just greedy. I want two but the wife won't let me

The vanl is looking superb, you must be well chuffed

I like the net in the back, might have to borrow that idea.

Steal all my ideas......go for it, handy for chucking socks and towels etc in. Yeah I'm happy with it just a couple of daft things to sort out, gear linkages need adjusting slightly or maybe repair kit fitting and there a noise sounds like something rattling above the spare wheel area probably a spanner I've lost lol. Looking forward to putting the bed in after I've made it full length......another job on the list. Also looking for some light grey leatherette/vinyl to cover the rest of the exposed ply wood to match the grey velle door cards I've put in the back if anyone can suggest a good supplier??

well when i left work today it was sunny so had a cheeky ride home with the roof open, the fresh air and ventillation was nice and something i have never experienced in a T3 before. Got home and gave it a good scrub as it hasnt had one for months! Then faye decided she wanted to play with the roof as she hadnt reallt took any notice of the weeks of work id put into fitting it lol so heres some pics........the freak sat on the roof is me
The head and arms belong to Faye
And the dead looking heads hers to
I guess im not the only one whos finds this image frightening LOL
Hopeing this will be the first many hours having fun in the van together

well its been a while as ive been generally using and abuseing the van, taking the bike out and doing lots of parts runs collecting parts for my mk2 escort im building anyway i thought i should really try and finish some stuff off and iron out a few small issues.
firstly on the list was tsliding door hinge mod as the bottom edge of the door was rubbing on the tyre a bit when it was fully open. Had never done this before yesterday and i had one spare rear mechanism so i thought id have a go. i was eager so never got that many pics. i ended up using both rear mechs to make the extended one, i glanced at the wiki and decided to extend the hinge first rather than cut the runner first as it ssaid in the wiki, my thinking with this was that i could measure it afterwards andand take the exact ammount off the runner. i addede 25mm into it and dressed it up with a powerfile after welding
give it a coat of paint to be drying while i was on with the runner
somehow it only ended up 23mm longer than standard so took 23mm off the runner
Then welded the end back on and give it a coat of paint, new grease and a waxoil for good measure
i suprised myself on this one was very easy to do and in my opinion it looks like a factory job Smile

Today i thought i best turn my attention to trying to get the interior finished off, aiming to have it decent for vanfest and viking vw which apparently is being held at york drag strip rather than on a steep hill in northallerton which should be better might even see what time the french oil burner can manage yet.
I bought some grey vinyl the nearest match the velle door cards i could find and set to on the passenger side b post and seat box area first. The b post took a bit of doing but the seat box area wasnt too bad, i used 1/4 inch scrim foam dehind the vinyl on the seat box area as the vinyl shows every single imperfection straight on topof steel.
once ive done the other side il make a small section off alloy fill in the area below the rubber walkthrough matt, dont like to many joins they look shit and to try and cover both seat boxes with one big piece would have taken some doing on my own.
finished b pillar
I decided while i was on id fit the seat swivel but then thought it a good idea to sound deaden underneath the seats and carpet the area to dampen down the road noise. sound system installs not totally finished yet either so il neaten all the amp wiring up at a later date when im happy with the setup.
fitted the seat swivel and run out of time today. spend an hour looking for the other seat swivel for the drivers side but with no joy looks like some light fingered gits helped theirself to it while ive been out of the garageAngry
more to come later in the week hopefully

Waiting for more scrim foam to come and wasn't 100% happy with the paint finish couple of bits of sinkage so thought I'd give it a flat and polish as it never really had a good one. Started with 1500grit discs on the da with a soft pad and then on 2000 before buffing. Looks much better now. Will give it a go over tommorow with machine glaze.

It's far from perfect but not bad for a budget paint job. If weather stays good il give it a coat of wax to seal it and hopefully stop the colour dropping from uv

Well the weather stayed decent so I carried on polishing today, managed to get some 3M oil based polish and a soft pad to go on the buffer, took all afternoon to polish it and give it a coat of wax, could do with some better wax really as it was just an old bottle of max wax I found in the garage. Quite pleased with the look now got rid of most of the sinkage so it looks a lot straighter than it did.
Just need the foam to turn up so I can get some more done inside.

Great read, I've just brought your old van from a guy near Loughborough, had no idea it was so unique! it's still looking as fresh as when you sold it. I saw it for sale at a car show and just had to buy it! I've got absolutely no previous knowledge of T3s or T3s (what even is it? a 3 or 25??) But have plenty of knowledge of mk3 Golfs (have owned 22+ of those now....). I've got lots of daft questions to ask the forum, where's the best place on this? The bus park? I think I'll start my own thread there but reference this in my first post. Thanks 😃
