I`am currently running an 1Z with a mTDI setup in my syncro, but it is using alot of oil so i will have to find another one.

My local breaker has got a load of low mile AHU engines lying around. Am i right to think that this would be a straight swap? I will only change the shortblock and the head, everything else will be taken from my current engine. Would i stumble upon any problems?

Will the injectors from the 1Z fit in the AHU head?

AHU and 1Z are both the same 1.9tdi 90hp engines, so no problems with swap at all

Con rods are different but interchange. No lump on ahu.
I have it in my head that the ahu was 89 and 1z 87.
no problems swapping internals from `1y, 1z, AEF, AHU, AFN blocks but you end up with different things hence an afn block and crank is a good upgrade for an aaz.

Ahu is built for bigger bhp , alot of the ahu seat lumps were 110 instead of 1z 90

From memory they had better crank/piston bearings to match the increased power.

1Z and AHU non auto injectors the same.
Audi blocks can be a problem to mount.
110`s  afn. Bigger nozzles and vnt. Stronger block.
Sputter top shells introduced later but a good upgrade retrospectively as the top big end shell is the first to wear out.
The later 110 Seats, post `98, got  AHF; crank and block (and head) not interchangable but rods and pistons good
