It's been a couple of years since I've checked (?Shocked?), but I've had at least 2 occasions where I've gone past the "range = 0" point (Service Stations can be a long way apart in Oz), then filled up and put 82-3 litres in. I think the 80 litre size is pretty nominal. Either that, or my tank has "stretched" because I keep bending the support straps when I go 4WDriving.
And since I'm talking about it, here's a little video of a recent trip with a bunch of T3 Syncro guys. http://s184.photobucket.com/albums/x55/4wheels_photos/Batemans%20Bay%20Syncro%20Trip%202011/Batemans%20Bay%202011%20Videos/ This is not where I bent the straps though. That happens because of the ramp over limitations of a LWB van.
If any-one can point me to some underbody protection (less expensive than the Siekel kit) it would be appreciated.

I think there may be a calibration change possible in the instrument coding. Perhaps this is intended for fuel sender changes. Maybe someone with good knowledge of VCDS (Vagcom) can help. Or youcould try a question on http://www.ilexa.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=24.0 to come up with an answer.[/QUOTE]
I think you might be right about some sort of calibration. Just returned from my trip to france and the "Range" on the multi computer was all over the shop. On 2 occasions i literally had a litre or 2 to go while still showing 50 plus on the range. Also when filling im sure the range would always go to about 560 yet now it starts around 500.   Weird!!

That's my understanding of it too. Pumps should be very accurate. I've squeezed in close to 80 litres too.

So my question (s) are...... is the tank really 80 litres??? Have my local garage not actually given me 79.42 litres??? Or is my new bloody fuel sensor that replaced the corroded knackered one going to get me stuck in the middle of nowhere with me thinking I can go another 25 miles??

Well this week I had a round trip off 600 and something miles but using my new mfd it was saying that I had 20 miles left in the tank so I thought I better fill up, when I got the next fuel stop it was about £1.40 a litre so I carried on anyway ended up driving for about 20 miles with it saying range 0 miles and my arse twicthing like a good un. When I filled up got £105 in at £1.30.9 a litre so by my calculations that is 80.1 litres give or take so 80 litres sounds about right

Oh yeah, while I'm rambling about fuel...

I can usually get about 580 miles from full to 'light-on'...

I had a similar one...

The fuel light came on just as i was going to get diesel [according to the tech spec I still had 10 litres], but I managed to put in about 77ish litres to fill it...
In the past I've managed a good 50-60miles from the light coming on to me going to fill it.

The mystery deepens....
