ive snapped my gear lever off about two inches off the bottom just below the top of the spring. Its a 1990 2.1 petrol 5 speed. This is my only form of transport so could do with one sharpish. Thanks

trouble is, the 5 speed ones are a lot more complex than the 4 speeds.
The 4 speeds arent cheap (theyre good though ). To manufacture 5 speeds from scratch would be expensive, especially when compared to welding the original one up, using it for a year or two, then welding it when it breaks again LOL

another option to get you out of the shit if you can't find a second hand one or don't have a welder, do like I did when mine snapped, just file/grind the two broken ends square then run a tap ( I think it was 10mm IIRC) an inch or so down into each half of the gearstick then wind a bolt tight into one half, saw the bolt off leaving approx 1" for the other half of the gearstick to wind onto (make sure you get the orientation of the two halves correct, I scribed a line down the two halves before I started) you may have to file/grind a little off the half you put on second to get it to lock up in the right place, then just drill 1/8" hole through the gearlever into the bolt, screw in a self tapper in each half then saw the head off it and file flush to the gearlever so the two halves can't unwind and refit the gearlever, job's a good un and I reckon it's at least as strong as it was originally, took me about an hour and cost f*ck all, if you don't have a set of taps machine mart do a cheapo set that includes up to 12mm for about £16, HTH.

ive already had it welded once by my mechanic last year. Its snapped where it was welded before so i dont think i can do it again. Its kind of my mechanics fault tho. When he mot s it or services it the gears always feel sloppy when i get it back and he always says he cant get it in reverse. Last time i picked it up a month ago it felt like i was stirring porridge in a bucket with a big wooden spoon. I will try the T3 direct guys tomorrow. Thanks for your help

yes.

It wont.
The 4 speed and 5 speed sticks are completely different at the bottom.
The best you could maybe hope for is to weld the top of the 4 speed to the bottom of the 5 speed...

not really going to work IMHO
