Inspired by this, and stealing much of the design from it, I built my pod this weekend:

Hi Blakey! No i did'nt use any framework. Pointless ,you dont get framework with kitchen units etc.
More or less cut a piece for the bottom and upper shelf the same size. Then the sides and back are all screwed to these.I did use furniture blocks underneath the upper shelf where the stove goes for extra support.
For the front i used one whole piece of mdf to the size, then cut out the drop down piece then cut the doors out.
Here is another pic of the first layout.

Darran,
I've designed my pod now and thought I had it all sorted but just took another look at your pictures on here and it appears you have no sort of framework for your pod. Is it all just MDF? I was expecting a framework of 2"x1" slats and then MDF panels to surround it and make the shelves. That's what I've done in my design, but as I say I'm wondering if that is all really worth it, or if I can get away with just MDF now.
Any chance you can post those extra pictures in this thread? I'm sure no one else will mind and it would be handy to lots of people who decide to do something similar.
Cheers!

Nope! Perhaps my junk mail filter caught them though. Did you label them "van porn" ?

Hi Blakey
Thanks for the positive comments
I can email you a bigger pics if you want. Let me know your email address.
The aluminium i bought in a sheet 500mm x 1000mm from my local diy store about £22.00. I have seen it in B&Q though.
The lid is mdf that i covered in a heavy duty high gloss fablon i found in B&Q thicker than the normal stuff. Quite impressive compared to the normal fablon and harder wearing. Cost £9.98 for a roll 2.5 metres.
Just make sure you prime any cut edges of the mdf with pva or something so it sticks better.

Nice pod!
I'm in the process of designing mine at the moment and think I might steal some of your ideas. A few questions:
1. Any chance of links to bigger versions of those pics?
2. What sort of aluminium did you use to line your cooker space? Any links?
3. What did you do with the top surface? Is that just MDF with a different colour fablon, or is it different wood or something else entirely?
Cheers!

Hi Matt
I have emailed a seller on ebay regarding the table island mounts.
Waiting for a reply from them.
Be careful because some of the legs taper from 57mm -53mm at each end. Such as the Fiamma one's. Ideally need a leg that is same measurement at each end for it to work.
I will let you know how i get on
Darran.

Darren, thats a great idea , i'm in the same position as you regarding the clearance for the flush mount point.
Cheers

Hi Matt!
I have'nt fitted my skimboard table yet, it is just placed in the van at the mo.
I will be mounting it on a table island leg probably. The thing is i have'nt got enough depth in the van floor for the reccess fitting. There is only 19mm with the ply. The reccess fitting needs 50mm so i will opt for the conical above floor mount.
Darran.

I've gone for the skimboard into table for mine but having problems with mounting the thing, how have you fitted yours?

Hey! top job, chum. That's pretty much what I have in mind for mine but I need it to fit on the OSR behind the removable three seats and be portable, so I'm all fired up now.
Cheers!!

I have been building a compact pod for my T5.
Here' s a few pics from start to van. May give others some ideas. May not
After a few measurements the basic layout.
Next step some doors, granite effect fablon and space for the stove.
Had to move it into the van now. Wife had enough of the mess in the house.
Into the van it goes and secured to floor and wall.
The stove will be housed in the top section behind drop down door.
So then i lined this aluminium sheet to protect the mdf from any heat. Then on with the lift up lid.
In goes the stove.
And all done.
Very happy with the end result.
All hidden away until needed.
