I am looking into buying some new tyres for my syncro
I am wanting to go to 16" on some nice alloys not yet bought.
I have some macho's at the moment 205/75/15 but they are not really suitable for every day or long motorway trips.
Did go to Camper Jam but they were a bit tyreing.

Ratio I have is 5.43:1 so 16" should be ok GoWesty use 215/70/16 with this ratio.

The tyres I am thinking about I have listed and prices I have found.

225/70/16

Cooper Disco ATR     £67.80
                      HT       £66.50

Kumho    798            £62.84

215/70/16

General Graber   AT2  £80.60
                           UHP £78.90

Kumho    825              £61.30

Cooper zeon xsta       £68.70

215/75/15

BFG MT                       £86.90

General Graber AT2   £68.00

KUMHO KL78              £64.00

Toyo Open county AT £59.00

235/70/16

Kumho KL78               £66.82

I have put some links to reviews

Like everybody I want good off-road, great on road, quiet cheap.

Any thoughts

From research and NOT experience, similar criteria, I came down to BF Goodrich AT/KOs or the Grabber AT2s, seem to be the best all rounders.

How come you havent listed the BF Goodrich AT/KOs? Price?

If you decide on 15's I have some nice 15x7 powder coated pentas going on ebay soon..

I run the Toyo,s more a mud/snow tyre, but performed great in the snow and ice recently.I only bought them because at the time there was a strike in the states, and you couldn,t get BFG/General Grabber for love nor money,i have been pleasantly surprised, but, from experience with the Doka i wouldn,t go past BFG A/T,you pays your price.

i`ve got at2`s with no complaints not noisey v hard wearing and reviews from american sites rate them above bfg.

just put kl71`s on my delica and they are awsome my mate has run then on his landy aswell as bfg mt`s and the bfg`s are no where near as good. " his words"

the kl71`s are reasonably quiet but not as quite as the at2`s.

When you have made your choice, give us a nod, I have a tyre machine and can get tyres, won't waste my time pricing loads up but when you decide let me know and I'll see if I can better it.

So what did you go for?

I've been looking for set of ATs for months - good with mud/wet grass but quiet and good on road.

Cheers for putting reveiw links up but the more reveiws I read the less clear it seems to getConfused

Aussie review above looks good and puts pirrellis are top, which is annoying as had decided on these some time ago (and were on offer!) but I read reveiw (can't remember where now) at the time said they were "hopeless in the mud"
Interesting the cooper reveiw has used same Aussie data but removed the bits they didn't do well in to get highest score!

Any more opinions re best ATs?

Most  all terrains are pretty crap in mud, that,s why most Syncro owners who go offroad regular will run mud terrains full time, or have a set of each. For a full time mud terrain Bfg,s are a good choice.

yeah I know but that bloody noise when running MTs on the road!
So looking for a compromise - some ATs better than others but which is best?
Trouble is theres too much choice an I'm thinkin too much an should just go buy BFGs - at least they'll last 60k and say fook it.
just com back from pub btw

These are my new wheels and tyres.

Wheels are ZCW Force Shadow 16"x7  40 offset - cost £430 for 5 and they are rated at 1150kg per corner.
Tyres are HANKOOK RF10 DYNAPRO ATM HANKOOK RF 10 - 225/75R16 106T TL - Great tyre - as good as the Bfg ATs (had them on my last Syncro) but only cost £70 ish each.

Hi Dave

I have 235 75 15 BFG Muds on 7j rims. Very loud but they have lightened the steering up loads. I have sectioned the front arches by about 35 mm so no problem with rubbing. Sitting on standard syncro springs all round at the mo.

I'm running Toyo Open Country ATs on my Westy Syncro. I can't compare them to anything other than a motley selection of stock size normal tyres of indeterminable parentage, however I'm very very impressed. Good on road in the dry or wet, not at all noisy, look decent, butch but not too OTT. Mine are 215/75/15s on Merc steels. I do about 50 miles a day.
