What is it ? The yellow pictogram outline of an engine that stays lit up all the time (if it is continually flashing that indicates a different error).
What does it mean ? According to my owner's manual it means there is someting wrong with the "quality" of the exhaust gases.
Other symptoms ? On mine it ran really roughly just after starting once. It also seemed less torquey from 1,400 to 1,800rpm, at 1,800rpm it was a bit like a light switch had been flicked "ON" and away it went wih normal power at those revs and higher.
What was the fix ? My dealer replaced faulty exhaust pressure sensor and forced a DPF regeneration (under warranty).
Did it fix it ? Seems to have (time will tell)
My engine is a late Nov 2006 build BPC 174hp 5 cyl R5 TDI with a DPF. It had done 53,000Km of mostly highway driving.
Has this happened to anyone else ?

That sounds like a partially blocked DPF. If the 'forced regeneration' they administered is the same as other makes,it involves running the engine flat out for a period of time,so its probably as well you wern't there to watch.

They do via diagnostics and light load driving. I haven't ever had to do it so I only know what I've read. I think there have been problems with the exhaust pressure sensors and a modified one is fitted. The regen is probably done to make sure the ECU and the sensor are both reset and singing from the same hymn sheet.
The bit about the car 'burning' is a bit scary. Edited by T5 TDI - 22 Jan 10 at 14:31 |

Thanks for the responses guys. I did do a search before I posted, honestly (and with "any date" selected too)
Did any of you notice a reduction in power under 1,800 rpm at the time ? Or am I the only "Miss Daisy" driver on here ?
