But when is a van not "just a van". I own and have the use of 2 other vehicles at my disposal but I spend most of my time in the "van" . It's what I earn my living in and so consequently it's what gets the most use. That's why I chose to buy a 174 with all the options - because i spend more time in it than any other vehicle i own. How many other people on here are the same as me ? Now if it wasn't my own van and it was supplied by say "an employer" then I can see the other side of it I suppose. Years ago when I worked for the gas board nothing pissed me off more than being stuck behind some old bastard out for a sunday drive (during the week) and not having the power to overtake them because the "employer" had bought the most basic aneamic cheapest van on the market. (MK1 & 2 Transhits,Leyland Sherpa's,Viva vans etc) and ............breathe..... ....Rant over. Seriously though my "van" is my car also. |

In your case "0 - 60" should be sustituted with "0 - fixed"

My Sportline was my work van (i'm a dryliner) and my personal vehicle. I'd always get comments like "that's too good for work" and "I wouldn't bring that on site if it was mine." Why would I want to drive a 1.9DCi Laguna at weekends when I had a Sportline? To be honest, cars really don't interest me. If I had bottomless pockets, i'd buy a new Sportline, take it to a racing team somewhere that specialise in diesels, and spend thousands on tuning & suspension and have one hell of a van. I can't think of any car i'd have over a van. I'm waiting on delivery of a Caddy Maxi Sportline now so i'm searching the internet for some nice bits for that when it comes.

Yeah i'm the same. I LOVE MY VAN and i've often said to my missus that if i won the lottery I would buy myself a brand new Sportline van and do the same. Wheels, suspension, engine performance etc. I would rather have that than a Ferrari/Porsche etc. More practical as well. And it's funny when you blow away the odd car here and there Some people out there don't realise how fast they are, after all it's just a van - how come it just blew me away ?***??? Another thing - it would be completely empty - no tools or heavy shite in the load bay for maximum mapped performance. I'm in the market for a new van for my son - been thinking about a Sportline Caddy also - keep the tax bill low and all that. I missed out on the Sportline T5 as I bought my van in 2004 before it was launched otherwise that's what i'd have now. My van is still too good to sell at the moment and I don't relish spending out another £25k + on a new Sportline at the moment. |

I hear you fella. I absolutely adore my van - if something goes wrong with it I'm in bits! but for me the van is about getting me and my stuff from A to B in comfort and style. I can win the traffic light GP with any one of my faster, lighter toys (apart from the kart, it'd get stuck on a catseye). |

I love my van for everything it does at work and play but when it comes to 0-60 times and whatnot, it is a van after all (albeit a pretty amazing one!!) so I know in acceleration it performs like an average diesel hatchback, nothing more. And in the handling stakes, let's be honest....
It's in smiles per mile that it really excels!!

My van is my work van. Self employed kitchen fitter..... I'm known to travel 200 miles to a job so i literally live in it sometimes so i opted for the Sportline as lets face it, if you can stretch to it what the hell... i may be dead next year!. I too choose the van before the family car[192bhp mini cooper s] for everyday running around. We also use it for days out and as Saunton beach is only 5 minutes from home it's often an excellent day van with surf boards etc all chucked on the roofbars. I said for years if i won the lottery thats what i'd buy. Got fed up waiting so bought one anyway. Accountant thought it was a good idea. Hopefully when i trade it for the next one it'll be a decent deposit. No remap yet, don't really want to tamper as it runs so well anyway but we'll see. Oh and after 1 DMF already i'm pretty subdued in 1st and 2nd gears, get to 3rd and here we go! It really isn't "just a van". |
