I have not needed to swap parts between boxes yet, but if both boxes are UN1 then no reason you cant build a highbrid box.

The guys to ask are these

Very interesting stats.

A big difference between the torque of the 1.9 1Z TDI and the 2.1 petrol.

I guess that is why the std transmissions brake, as the 2.1 petrol was the strongest engine fitted except the south african 5 cylinder, which had modifications to the gear box from std.

Just thinking out loud here, but seeing as the diff can be flipped over to reverse the drive, is there any reason why the Ren ault engine couldn't be used as well?  I mean apart from the fact it's a french filth obviously.  Just thinking it may be a very cheap conversion if adapters and such like are no longer needed?

You need to find out what the code is for the gearbox that you have been offered. Is it a UN1, or something else. If you look at the chart, all gear box codes are listed and all are 5 speed.

You seem to be familiar with the assembly and you did an amazing job.

To perform the installation in good conditions, I harvest all the information beforedismount.

For the conversion, I think buy the conversion kit at "busprojekte.de" but I lack the selection box.

How did you realize your selection box ?
Original selection box ? Original selection box but modified  or selection box "homemade "?
Have you any information and / or photos in your final installation?

Thank you
Antoine

The selection box that I used is a modified 4 speed gear selection box. This works best for the 5 speed UN1.

First gear might be of some use in another of the taller UN gear boxes, but the price might be a little high at 140.

The engine and gear box was removed from the grey panel van and fitted into my orange caravelle camper.
The results are so good, I now use this bus as my daily driver and have also totted up quite a few miles on trips over to Europe. 400 plus mile in stead of 200 mile from a tank of fuel with the petrol engine makes the conversion well worth the effort.
