Anyone got an other ideas/experiences on the front cab bed thingy ?

Need one to go into the chappy wagon for our 3 week chappy family UK tour in September.  Checked with Simon ^^ and his isn't going to be ready yet Unhappy (gutted 'cos you know it would have been quality Smile) so I'm left with the option of a Bluebird Campers one that I'll have to modify to fit the T3 (so it goes on the b pillar not the door.

So before I part with some hard earned and embark on a modification excercise - any thoughts?

so - no ideas chaps??  Is it off to Bluebird for Chappy then  Question  I'm having a bit of bother installing their R&R bed, so not sure how I feel about that.
But the boy needs somewhere to sleep so it's got to be done!

Just fitted the front bed cab thingy into Herbie...
Instructions say it should fit to the front pillar (by windscreen) and A pillars (Seatbelt one)
Aint no way it would fit on front pillar as there would not be enough room to get the cross poles in......
I have fitted mine just above the seat belt mounts (takes a bit of drilling but solid once it is in!) and on the doors, basically about 1/2 way up the angled section (same height as rear mounts). Working on the theory that at the front of the door, it is close enough to the hinge not to put too much strain on it, also, as the doors will be closed, the weight will also be taken on the latch mechanism...
Put my mates littlun in (4 years old but quite small!), no problem and loads of room!
PM me if you want some piccies etc...

Your call fellas! I reckon the material would be too tight if on the A and B as well as the fact you would struggle to get the pole in...

To each his own!!

milk n cheese, where did you file the pole? Would be interested to see it on the front pillar, I could always retor fit if its a better set up!

I have read this with interest.
I have been making some cab bunks for people over on the T4FORUM.
Nobody makes them for the T4.

Looks great Rob Thumbs%20Up

I must admit I do like the idea of being able to open the doors with the bed in place though (without pitching Chappy Jnr out the door that is) LOL

I know what you mean!Wink

I did make one that had two brackets on the door pillars like these,
Then there was a frame that went onto the speakers/dash.
A side view is like this...

Just another idea for your pleasureShocked

Well, looks like I'm going to make me own.  Spoke to Bluebird again, and they're not inspiring me with confidence.  At all.  And they're out of stock.

Them - "We've got new stock soon"
Me - "How soon"
Them - "Don't know, we'll knwo when they arrive"

Sheesh..Confused  At least you couldn't accuse them of high pressure sellin' LOL

Interestingly they said they're planning a new spring loaded model soon.  Their R&R bed is quite good so be intersting to see how that pans out.  Too late for me though.

Planning to go away 1st 3 weeks of Sept so need a bed for the boy.  Off to the metal merchant next couple of days

Well... bit of an update then..

Due to kick of the Chappy Family 3 week UK tour on saturday so the pressing subject of a bed for the nipper has been weighing heavily on my mind... Ermm

Our test weekend was last weekend - up to Drayton Manor and then around Gloucs was a bit success, just needed to replace a dodgy fanbelt (wasn't charging properly) and the tip of the exhaust silencer (noisy!)..Smile

But I am convinced that I can't spend three weeks sleeping 'upstairs' ! Cosy it is, long term comfy it ain't Wink  Be honest now, you're thinking "how the feck did he get up there in the first place..."

So, took a punt on the JK Type 2 over cab bed... clicky

Not specifically for the T3 I know, but at £39.95 it's a lot cheaper than the £60 bluebird want for their version - which is out of stock and doesn't do what it says on their website.

I needed it to fit to the A and B pillars, and the BB one doesn't - has to go onto the front of the door frame instead, which is no good for me 'cos I want to be able to open the door when he's sleeping..

So long story short, I fitted the JK one this evening.  No big probs, and I'm fairly impressed with the quality to be honest.  The canvas is a little on the tight side, but it's obvious that it will stretch after a couple of uses.

All things considered, I'm a happy bunny  Big%20smile
