no this is lovely

this is very similar to one I had..

point is I'm all for modernising a look or a direction of design... but to abandon it completely?

we no longer seem to produce iconic cars any more... cars that define an era

The rear does look like the Volvo C30.

The side copies the Mazda RX8 with BMW style 'flame' surfacing.

And as already noted, the front is a blatent Hyundai ripoff.

When I worked as a stylist it was accepted that you have to look to the past to take iconic detailing from a past model to pass on its heritage - in this case I can't see it. The grille, lights and bodystyle are a total departure from the Capri we know and love. In short it amounts to a new Ford Coupe using the Capri name to gain sales - just like the Scirocco has. Whats even more unforgivable is that Ford have given us the Probe, the Cougar and now this - proclaiming them all 'the new Capri'.

Neither car has any sense of history, they are just poor marketing ploys. At least the BMW Mini and New Beetle kind of look like the cars they immitate.

Millions and Millions spent on a product that despite its name won't stir that nostalgia on iota. Pathetic effort in my opinion!

If I were styling it there would be a few vital styling cues:

#4/7 spoke alloy wheels (like the Ronal 4 spoke or the RS 7 spoke from the 2.8i- updated and wider)
#Sculpted side surfacing - reminiscent of the early Capris
#Black bonnet and side graphics - bringing back those RS3100 days
#Twin exit exhaust
#Curved side window profile (by Tom Tjaarda of Ghia, same as Mk1 Fiesta and De Tomaso Pantera)
#Lift back tailgate
#Wide rear lights
#Bonnet hump
#Sharks gill front grille (it MUST have a grille FFS)

Surely these are the most recognisable parts of the Capri and if Ford can do it with the Mustang (the Capri's inspiration) surely they can with this.
