ive just been given a porsche steering wheel for the van ,unfortunately its got the later big spline mounting .
i have had a look on vagcat and they list two different spline adapters ,one aT3mm long and one at 46mm long. so which one do i need to order from vw ??? long or short??? cheers |

The 26mm and the 46mm refers to the measurement of the outer splines on the top of the adaptor....which is same as the measurement of the inner splines of the steering wheel...if you get what I mean. 191 419 514 26mm 191 419 514 A 46mm Edited by g60steve |

I think a photo is needed.... Only one I could find to explain that the 26mm is the distance across the top of the outer splines. |

steve your a star.......
i understand perfectly now . only problem is ,the measurement of the porsche wheel is 20/21mm. so is there another adapter, or is this wheel not going to fit . interestingly the boss has a vw logo and the number 39 stamped on it if this helps identfiy the correct one. |

ive been giving it some thought and although i dont doubt your mesurements on the smaller one ,i cant ever remember seeing a steering wheel with a 46mm spline hole ,thats huge.
are you sure that is what the 26mm refers too. im as confused as you now has anyone got a late golf wheel they can measure for me... Edited by crewie |

Bought an adapter a couple of weeks ago from VW, the chap on the parts counter confirmed the 26mm/46mm is deffinitely the diameter of the outer splines.

If I could find the adaptor I've got...somewhere...I'd be able to say for sure. That photo is what I was led to believe the measurements refered to.....anyone else know? In fact Badger ordered one not long ago from those part numbers...maybe he can measure his...ooo err. |

thanks for all the help chaps.
and i wasnt doubting your wisdom steve i reckon you have just saved me from wasting a few quid. ive just done a bit of google research and it looks as tho 911's had the same spline size as early bugs (pre 73) untill the late 80's.later beetles have the same spline size as T3's , early golfs etc. with porsche wheels only 924's and 944's have the correct splines to fit the T3. 928's share the 911 column. so unless i can find an adapter to allow the fitting of an early bug wheel onto a late bug steering column, my free steering wheel is usless |

Crewie, I think that 39 is a 31 isn't it?

39 is stamped onto the shiny bit at the top of the splines if you look carefully

sell it to a 911 owner (or a bug owner with aspirations), buy a wheel that fits
