Hi,
I have been looking for either 19 or 20" Alloys for my T5. It's been driving me mad, as I can't seem to find any that are subtle, rather than 'bling'. I found Rinspeed C5/1 alloys, but these won't fit the T5. I also really like the ABT AR 19 or 20", but given the fact that my car has OEM polished alloys, and they only last a max of 2 years before they start to corrode under the laquer, puts me off the ABT wheels. I would prefer some kind of simple 5 spoke design. Can anyone give me some odeas of where to look and what's about? Many thanks, Mike. |

Oh, saw some really nice wheels on a T5 in Bristol the other day. Centre cap
had the 'Mangels' brand name on it, but haven't been able to find them on the web? Mike. |

Thanks for that one Baldy. Can't seem to find anything I like as much as the ABT AR19, or Stilauto 5 though. Thanks again...

Well, I guess time for an update... I in the end have decided on, and ordered the ABT Ar 19's pictured a couple of posts back. It bit crazy on the price compared to what else is around, but I really like em! They worked out at £1536 plus Vat, and plus tyres (Continental Contisport extra loads) at another £616 plus vat. Just hope they look as good in the flesh! Thanks for the help and input on this one.

Yeah, that does worry me a little. I'm really careful as far as kerbs are concerned, but it does look like there is little or no protection for the edge of the rim with the tyres in the pics.

Are you going to upgrade the callipers too? I saw a T5 with some pretty 'racey' uprated green ones on it. |

You've got a tidy loking van there Mike. Just seen a photo of it with your new wheels on in another thread. I had a set of 19's on mine, but it just didn't look right and took them off before the winter. With the standard suspension it just looked too high, and i was wondering which springs you've got fitted cos it makes a hugh difference.

Hi,
I have the genuine VW lowered springs. I believe it's about 30mm lower? The van was empty in the pic, so that's as high as it gets. I ought to load it up and take more pics I'll post more pics when I have taken better ones. |

BEWARE OF RINSPEED I bought a set of RINSPEED C5/1 23" Alloys about 9 months ago and have covered under 5000 miles in them. I was driving with my family onboard last month and one of the rear tyres had a blow out and completely shredded. Luckily I wasn't going to fast so managed to control the skid. When I fitted the spare I noticed the inside of the RINSPEED alloy had cracks all the way around leading from the inside edge towards the centre. I thought this was a one off so decided to buy a new RINSPEED alloy. My car has just been into Land Rover to fit the new RINSPEED alloy and to check a problem I've been having with the tyres going flat. It turns out that all 3 of the other RINSPEED alloys have similar large unrepairable cracks in them which are the reason for the tyres constantly going flat. This is obviously not acceptable on a set of alloys that are only 8-9 months old and have covered so few miles. When I contacted RINSPEED and BORBET (who manufacturer the alloys for Rinspeed) I asked them to replace or refund the wheels under warranty due to their poor build quality, saying that it was probably a bad batch and overlooking the fact that my families lives were put at risk. I was eventually told by the director of RINSPEED, Mr. Frank M. Rinderknecht, that BORBET say the failure was due to my driving style, i.e. smashing into kerbs etc and that they were not prepared to honour the warranty! I was furious as I am over cautious not to damage the wheels and would say I'm a pretty safe driver. Rinspeed say this is nothing to do with them as the wheels are manufactured by BORBET. BORBET will not reply to any of my emails even though I have threatened legal action. Mr Bederke of BORBET has failed to respond so I can only assume that BORBET and RINSPEED alloy wheels are dangerous! |
