Does anyone know a way to REMOVE bonded windows so I can refit them
without any damage to the glass or the van? I've fitted a bonded window in the sliding door of our van, but after struggling with cutting the hole, I couldn't bring myself to make a start on the drivers side. So I paid someone to do it. But I'm not happy with the results. The window I fitted sits flush to the body work, looks nice and factory. The one they fitted, sits away from the body, you can see the sealant between the rubber seal and the body work. The 2 skins of the van aren't bonded together, and when you shut the drivers door, you can hear the window and panel rattle around I want to cut it back out, remove all the sealant, clean it all up, dress the panel up right, bond the 2 skins together and refit the window. Any suggestions on how to get the window out to start with? Cheers |

Cheers dude.
I've seen a few different tools on the net for sale, but I only need to do 1 window, and don't plan on doing any others. I'm thinking of just using some wire or something, like either a bike brake cable, or some stitching wire (same stuff that staples are made of) Hmmmmm. |

They're cheap enough on eBay Andy just to use once and then forget about...until next time. At least these are "one man" jobs whereas using just wire you'll need 2 people. |

Noncompusmentis g60steve is correct i used to work for rac autowindscreens and that is commonly know as a "kent tool" and its exactly what you need to cut out the glass. it might come blunt or sharp but make sure it is razor sharp to cut through the polyuerathane (liquid rubber) bonding which holds the glass to the van. Its a great bit of kit and its what we use to cut out all bonded windows. Bananabus is also correct you can use a snap blade knife however they are a bit clumbersome and easy to scratch the side of the van once through the bonding, and they easily cut yourself (i have scars to prove) Tbh your best off with a kent tool and that price on e bay is good. also you might want to buy a few more blades as they tend to bend/snap very easily hope this helps mate Edited by orangevanman |

I've bought that tool off Ebay, so hopefully that will arrive in time to get the window sorted over Christmas. Cheers for your advice guys. |

I must say that I'm impressed with my own handy work... not an 'easy' job to do, but it was a simple job if you know what I mean. We finally got the white wheels on it now too... and the bed frame is even nearer to completion now, just gotta weld in some plates to bolt it down with, cut the bulkhead down to size and weld that into the frame, then send the whole lot off for powder coating. It's getting there... slowly! |
