Lewis, the brackets attach the dropsides to the van and act as the pivot points.
My ally dropsides came with one original bracket and the rest had been broken and replaced with steel bodgit items. CJ is having the original one for his Syncro 16 Sika.
 
The dropsides aren't as nice as I'd hoped, they need some TLC and the correct handles fitting and I'll be getting them painted up to match the van soon aswell.

Do the dropsides use a custom handle Mike?

If not I have a good set of VW ones here.

Personally I think they're a great improvement and their rarity value makes them uber cool.

It's coming along great. Keep up the good work!

The ally dropsides use part of the original VW handles but then a bracket which is specific to the ally gate.
I've picked up a set from CJ but might still be looking for some very good handles so I might be interested.
How's your Doka Syncro?
