Not sure if its anyones on here but there's a 'D reg' RHD westy pop top in Bristol. Its got Club Joker stickers down the side and is a fetching mid eighties chocolate brown! If I ever get the chance I'll have a proper look at it. Cheers ttcharlie |

As I'm changing back upper storage in our van into an upper berth I found that this van was originally one of the westy installs not sold by VW! The pop top was replaced with a Reimo hitop! The mounting holes are on back corner and on from of center opening. So this is the same conversion used on RHD vans with galley on wrong side. Hope someone with a RHD westy shows up for westy fest to compare with.

just been looking into this a bit further. Seems VW DO have listed RHD Westies. Dunno why I didn't think of this before but if anyone has ETKA go into campmobile rather than type 2, then open something then look at V pages. Seems it was an option from '79 up to 7/'85 There is nothing from 8/'85 onwards. Even syncro TD westies in RHD were available. I was just looking for a colour code for the roof of a mates Westy, and just thought I would have a look. Wonder if any other RHD countries got them then? Japan? Australia? Make you think doesn't it? Thing is, VW have bothered to list them in ETKA makes you think they produced at least one for them to bother!

Isn't the sliding door on the wrong side for RHD?

Do you think people would buy a right hand drive conversion westfalia?? i have found a chap who is willing to do a left hand to right hand drive conversion, i sold him a van about a year ago and his wife wont drive it as it is left hand drive, He said should take him about a week maybe more, but isn't too bad only big job is remove plate where servo would be on right hand drive model and fill hole back in on left hand side?? If there is a call i might get a van done !! any thoughts?

Our 88 LHD 'Westy' conversion was imported from Netherlands. Same interior with galley and side seat on left instead of right side so fridge is by seat. Wardrobe is on same left side. I believe tis identical components. Water tank is under sink, no LPG tank or waste tank underneath. We have Reimo topper so no pop-top. Will be interesting to get these together and compare them.

just found this: http://www.travelworldrv.co.uk/VideoFAQ.asp Then go to "how did you get into it?" section I'm sure its the dealer my Westy came from, albeit at new premises. One of the blokes speaking is "Bob Edwards" who could be, or be related to the "R.H.Edwards" from the bottom of the invoice I posted above. Think a trip to see him is required. Can't see a Westy plate in the photos either.

I'm about 5 miles from Oswestry so no excuse not to go to the show on my doorstep! My Bro is in Egham so if I get down to see him I'll PM you, otherwise I should be going to a few events this year. Edited by west20v |

I'm going to Bustypes in Oswestry this weekend but not Big Bang unfortunately - The Lady has decided we are going elsewhere! I agree, we need to compare vans, where are you based? I can't find a Westfalia plate on the van, I've had all the interior out and nothing there, all I've got is my data sticker under the dashboard.

Have you listed your option code yet (the plate in your van). We must compare buses at some point. You going to Big Bang? |

I knew I had the above literature somewhere, found them when I was looking for something else! When I have the time, I'll go and take the Westy to show the original owner and hopefully get some more info. I'm sure he will have a tear in his eye - it was his pride and joy. He had a wheelchair ramp and runners installed for his disabled wife to travel around. The memories people make with vans is fascinating, people you meet have so many tales to tell - my girlfriend was...ahem... "made" in a split in Italy as her parents tell me! Will get to the dealership sometime and dig some more. Has anyone been able to decipher option codes yet? |

West20v - what a great find!!! Funnily enough I spoke to the original owner of my Westy today! He bought the camper from a dealer. It was actually an ex demo, BUT he received it with 40 miles on the clock. He just went in and bought it! The price then was £13,000. What did a 'normal' camper / wedge retail for then..? Cause if you compare that to the retail price index it works out to £26,500k although according to GDP it works out to £44,000 in todays money WHATS MORE - is that this couple were foster parents, and had 130 kids go through that van, and the interior is still in A1 condition! What a testament to them! Must keep on doing more digging, next stop the dealership. |

All well and good but why has that westy got the wheel on the wrong side?
When i was looking for mine I came accross a RHD Westy Joker pop top from a Seat dealer (px) near Biggin Hill. I considered it but to be honest having made my mind up that i would end up with a LHD version, I went for the best van that suited my needs and budget and in the end it was a LHD Hitop Joker. |
