after a few years of hanging in the shadows of the t3 forum and then
selling my bus, I got myself a caddy.
After over a year of looking at sh1tters and over priced rot boxes I found
one, it aint perfect by any stretch on the imagination, it well batterd but
its pretty much rot free and has only done 81 k from new!

I have a how to somewhere that I never finished for the axle flip.

Basically, remove the axle.

Either grind off the locating brackets and reweld them 180 degrees further round or make some more brakcets (what I did)

Then you have to drill out the centre of the bracket for the locating pin into the springs.

Cut down the load valve bracket and redrill, or cut it down, cut it off and mave it back a bit so the load valve still works as it should ( if fitted)

If everything is well rusty don't be tempted to try to remove the 6 bolts that hold the stub axle in place as they will just break off, drop the back of the spring down to get the axle in and out again.

If you get stuck, post here and i'll get to it when time permits.

it's gunna take about a day if your doing it on the drive.

GSF sell cheap golf lowering kits, just sell the rear springs.

Caddys are 40mm higher than a standard golf, so if you get some 40mm springs it will bring it down by 80mm...

Axle flip will drop the rear about 120mm, just right.

cheers for the guide as it worked out last weekend I did the flip which
turned out to be rather alot easyer than I first anticipated because
everything came off really with ease. just needed was a bit of self
confidence and measuring ,marking and measure again, so it all lined up
when it went back on, only thing I didnt do was cut the brake compo arm
down but I ill do that at a later date (when its not raining!)

so the back came down and going it for the first time took me about a
day and a half slow but being abit paced as I didnt want to fudge it up.
Then yesterday I dropped the front by 40mm.
the luck ran out!
after negotiating my way around the passenger side strut I could not
figure out how to remove the shocker from the strut and thought I had
bought the wrong shockers so after and hour and a bit of head scratching
I resorted to that time honered methord ,shout and swear, whilst having
the strop I realised that the plastic cover that covers part of the shocker
had dropped down over the securing thread and had the bottom of it had
been covered by shyte and mud obscuring it and setting it into a solid
block of dry dirt, so got all it out and cleaned it off and a tap with a drift
and off it came! the sheared off the drivers side camber bolt , my I can
swear loudly when that can loose and went to a main dealer as it was the
only placethat may have had it spare .......£9 for one bolt!
after that I thought thats all the bad carma done with ........ but I had one
more suprise , when I took the spring plate off the top ,the spring sprung
and caught me unawares .. in the face rember that for next time!
double check as it was only a slip in my concentration for a moment and
a few less threads on the nut than I had thought. so if you are doing it
allways make sure it is facing away, not even a little bit towards you as its
a fair amount of force . lesson learnt!
so the rebuild went fine and took about an hour in all, so if your goning
to do this for the first time llike me give yourself a day to do it and the
sit and admire the results.

like a lass of the jeremy kyle show .... its rough as dogs but i cant help but like it a polished turd

how do the photos work or am I being a bit on the slow side?

what is the carrying capacity of the old Caddy?

Surely if you stick 10cwt in the back now, the tyres are going to rub on the arches..........or have I missed something.

I am actualy after one of the Caddy pickups, but the next one they made after, which i want to jack up. They seem to be going for silly money though

I'm guessing people dont generally go and lower their trucks and then go carting pallet loads of bricks around in them!
