All a bit confusing and annoying this morning. I was supposed to be off so I could escort Littl'un to her Atos appointment, but on Saturday discovered I had a funeral to go to on Wednesday, so decided to to half a Monday and half a Wednesday.
Jump in the van, nothing, except tiny, tiny little flickering dash lights. The battery is being charged now, but I am not sure what has happened. I had a similar problem a while ago but that was too much radio when working inside, when sorting the wipers and headlamps, or so I thought. I have not used the van much over Christmas, but have not any bother when I did. The satnav has been plugged into the accessory socket which is attached to the battery, and my wiper workaround is the same. I have no internal lights. ?Could these have drawn sufficient over a week to flatten the battery? I cannot think of anything else, and of course taxi this afternoon now. As usual, all of your Out-of-the-mire helpful hints will be appreciated.

It is not the battery. Four hours of charging and still the same tiny, tiny little flickering dash lights. Charger says fully charged.
Multimeter time, but I will not get much of a chance until later, and probably will have lots of time on the bus tomorrow to think about it.

How is the main connection on the battery. I assume it is making good contact and that a badger hasn't eaten through the earth cable.

Just checked them Mike, and all seems well. I am going out again to make sure there is current at the fuses.
Kin p$$ed off, and on a day I cannot get too mucky, or spend too much time doing so. |

Ive had issues with the earth lead of the battery before, it was green with corrosion and not conducting properly. Other than that your battery might be dropping a cell or something?
Have it load tested somewhere, winter is a testing time for batteries, if its weak a few cold mornings will finish it off.

I will check them, and the isolator which is probably twenty-five years old too.
I have just got in, via big yellow bus, and it was snowing and blowing a gale, so may be not tonight. ?What is not to like?

The problem with buses is you cannot hurry them up, an hour and a half to do ten miles, twice a day, so a Friday morning trip into the battery bay.
2.36V across the battery. No idea where the 'fully charged' came from on the charger, so it is plugged back in. Ever hopeful. I wish I had spent a little more time on it on Monday now. Hey ho. This was meant to be a new battery just before we got the LT, so it will get charged and we will see later on. New battery from around the corner if necessary, and then I will have to check the charging voltage while running, and everything else.

The charger is still pumping 15V into the battery so I will not get anything done tonight, but what I have achieved .........drum roll.........is the first test machining of the gearshift bushes.
Now you can call me stupid. I may have switched the charger to 6V inadvertently on Monday.

Fully charged, again, so .....?Why is my multimeter reading 16.87V?
I am going to ask the shop around the corner where I got it, since I am certain that it should only get to 15V at the most. ?Could this indicate a faulty battery, or a faulty battery caused by the charger? I will leave it to settle for a few hours before I do anything else.

Getting better all the time.
Now reading 21V and disconnected for two and a half hours. A different multimeter says 13.2V, so probably the first meter acting up, brilliant. Plugging it back into the van now.

12.9V plugged in, down to 11.8v on first heat up, then down to 11.6V on second heat up, then, 14V while running.
What I did find though was a broken area of insulation on the wiper work-around. I could not see where it may have been damaged, but nothing else obvious, so taped up and tucked away. The isolator seems to be doing its' job without leaking any current at all.
