I've just bought the bits for an oil cooler and have a couple of questions...
1) I dont know how oil will be required, but whats the best procedure in filling the system with oil? I dont want to stick 7 litres (or whatever) of oil in the system just to wait for the thermostat to open so oil goes in the cooler. Is this what the bolt near the thermostat is for? 2) do i need to mount the cooler on rubber mounts like the radiator is? Or can i simple bolt it on? Thanks Ringo Edited by ringonotts - 28 Aug 08 at 22:35 |

Here's what I did: After fitting - Make sure oil level is nearer the top mark than bottom. Fire her up and let idle till you see oil light go out. Stop engine, check level, top up.
Repeat till the level is static. Job done.
Oil will go through the cooler regardless of what the thermo is doing - did on mone anyway. It just controls rate of flow. Hot - more flow....cool - less flow..

Put it this way... if it didn't then I lost at least a 2 litres of oil when I first fired up!! and it wasn't on the floor, so I'm guessing (hoping ) it was in the oil cooler
I mounted my cooler without rubber mounts. no probs.

Chappy,
Did you use 90 degree bends off the plate - or straight ones (to connect to the pipes)? Ta Ringo |

straight ones. they went nicely past the water pipes and down under the van, following the solid water pipes and over the top of the tank.

bits and bobs around and then pirtek for the hoses. Me dad got me on it when he pulled one out his shed. Went for 5/8th connectors and a 25 row radiator. I decided to just go the whole way with the aaz as i want it spot on and reliable. Least it should be when i've sorted my overheating problem out... (picking up new radiator tomorrow).. Thanks again Ringo Edited by ringonotts - 28 Aug 08 at 23:21 |

What about the oil cooler itself? Does the radiator have the connectors at the top or bottom (or does it matter).. Ringo |

Connector at the bottom on mine. Pipes run off to the right of the van (from the drivers perspective).
