hi ran the van again to day really loud tapping noise and sounded to be running on three cylinders so pulled the head off expecting to find bent valves. with the head upside down filled round the valves with engine cleaner to try and find the culprit all the valves hold fluid ie no leakage after cleaning head off with gunk and starting to rebuild fond that one of the hydraulic cam followers sits 4-5 mm lower than all the rest so now thinking that could be the rattling noise? pump timing was only sett to original setting ie piece off bar through pulley into the block thanks madmatt for your help

its worth checking all the followers when out look for hairline cracks.if the followers let go it will make a right mess. bar in pulley will get the timing in the ballpark but need a dti to set 100%.
