Hi all,
Thinking up fitting an electronic ignition kit to my 1980 2.0L LT 28 - have always fitting them to my classic cars and aircooled VWs in the past - improves starting etc... and no maintenance really. Has any fitted one to an LT - any recommendations on kits? Cheers, Pual

Electronic ignition tends not to follow the correct curve so is more of an average.

The link doesn't work? If it's only me sorry for repeating the following.
Dreamcatcher has one on his van. He bought a 'kit' but it didn't work. Being the knowledgeable chap he is he did manage to make it work. The thread is here, http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/electronic-ignition-kit_topic74517.html Not an hour ago I bought this, http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/ignition-amplifier-kit-ve00a The hassle Dreamcatcher went through put me off his kit. The one I bought was only £5 so I thought I'd give it a go. When it comes and I've put it in/on I'll post how I got on with it. Just noticed yours is a 2L. Mine and Dreamcatchers are 2.4's so the above might not apply. Dreamcatcher is the only one I know who has tried it. You could try pm'ing AndyT he is the only member I can think of who has a 2L. He has done a lot of work on his and different LT's so I would be surprised if he doesn't know something about fitting them to 2L's. Edited by volition82 - 24 Sep 14 at 21:46 |

I have posted linked searches umpteen times but it was a simple 'Electronic ignition' search in 'LT Tech'
Possibly time limited. ?Who knows? AndyT is LPG so that might throw things too. If it was no so late, I think one of the more recent members is looking for EI, PaulADiver and SablePoot come to mind.

I tried a search for EI but it didn't show any results, so maybe it's just me?
Three recent EI enquiries and petrol's being on the less common side. We all must be thinking the same, that sounds a bit rough and lumpy! It's starting to sounds like a diesel |

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, I did try a search and could get anything up.
This doesn't work for me at all - http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/search_results_posts.asp?SearchID=20140925070826&KW=Electronic+ignition Think I'll get a generic 4 cylinder kit and give it a go.

Never had a problem with points so I haven't fitted one. Same set for 7 years now.
I might consider a module if the dizzy shaft was worn and the dwell is all over the place, but if it ain't broke I don't fix it. Tried to help a member recently and concluded that the module had a fault but no way to test it. So if you do fit one save the old bits just in case you get stuck. |
