Hi all,
posted the following on the general forum - realised should be in the Tech section (new to this forum stuff, sorry!): Hi, can anyone out there explain the different engine types please? - I've seen references to DG, DW, and IG. How do I identify what type my engine is - my engine no. starts 1S (or IS). Are parts between engines interchangeble? I am thinking about changing my cambelt - don't know when it was last done, but need to make sure I buy the right one. Thanks, Peter. |

Hi, have just found this forum after hours of net searcing and very pleased to be here. I am currently doing reserach on LT's because I intend to buy an LT Bus in the next few weeks. Would be great if there was an LT buyers guide listing known problems and faults etc. Anyway there's some good info on Lt's onthe following link including engine history (as you might expect) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VW_LT

The Wikipedia site doesn't seem to give specific info on the engine types, unless I'm not looking in the right place - someone out there surely must know???

Check your V5 reg document. On mine the engine number starts with DW.

LT35 camper 1987 2.4 litre 6 pot diesel, DW engine, no turbo, no PAS.

Engine number is stamped on the block under the vacuum pump.
