and here it is!

abf's out gearybox split and hengine now resides in corner of unit (by the beetle engine next to the racking)

doka's now sat on the floor on its wheels again (two years its been up in the air!) had a bit of a rearrangement up t'unit and the v6 is now eyeing up the rear of the doka! oo-err!

Big smile

stole a few hours on this today! got very little to show for it tho.... the "c" section i put in front of the trailing arms had to come back out as it now fouls the sump  and the oil filter housing on the v6. as you can imagine when i fitted the section i had no plans to take it back off any time soon! 3 hours and its out in lots of little pieces! LOL shitty job out of the way now tho... try again friday to slot the new motor in.......

a belated update from t'weekend!

having been on the search for ages for the correct box for the engine one eventually turned up after what seemed like months of negotiation! as the syncro-mesh had gone it was time to find one that stayed in gear all by itself! oh and i cut the end off it anyroad!

aftermath of the old "C" section removed

dropped the engine in on the obligatory pallets to get the height and the centre

i had already made the straight section and cut out some big ole holes for the gearbox mounts.
i thought i'd re-use the plates off my old engine bars and see how things panned out.....

bolted those back in situ and took some measurements then got busy with the cutting disks! long story short- gusseted and welded in and out and cleaned up

refitted to the doka and luckily the heat didnt pull it about too much (little bit of twist but i managed to pull it out)

offsides good...

nearsides a bit close to the trailing arm - need to sort that!

so thats the gearbox sorted - now the engine mounts.........

got a length of box and put a few holes in it and made up sone "J" bolts out of some all-thread fitted that onto engine hoist lugs and re-set my height to get me off the pallets and packers

view from the lockers

engine got taken out again after to remove ali engine mounts off the block these need to get remade as the hydros would be sat over the inner trailing arm bolts

off to find some more shallow engine mounts........

looking good..
if it makes you feel ant better my two doka's are have moved less than yours in the last few years.

still collecting parts for both builds though.
WHY T3's.... because they are just so adictive, and having one just aint enough

The gearbox seems to be in a crate full of cat litter - you expecting it to dump something?

todays efforts..

engine mounts for the block - not too different to the originals just really moved up and closer to the engine. spent most the morning on these as theres no parallel faces and no symmetry..

once they had cooled i refitted them to the engine and made up the basic plates to weld to the chassis rails like so....

engine out again so i can weld in the gussets to strengthen them up

nearside

offside

no symmetry here either! loads of room round the n/s tight as you like round the o/s

again let that cool down and while i was waiting i refitted new box and associated new parts

dropped engine back in with mounts and the bus has the engine un-aided by pallets or supports!

offside mount nice and tight in there!

nearside mount bit o space!

quick look underneath and the lowest thing under there is the fuel tank (standard)

and for no other reason than just because....

zorst!
