Haven't been on here for ages and my van has been languishing, unloved for a while but I'm finally getting round to sorting it out. Thought I'd post some pictures so others can encourage / laugh at (delete as appropriate) my endeavours.

I'm thinking of doing a shipping container style paint job.  At the moment the back of the van is more like a shipping container thats been parked in the sea for a while.

Very cool. I've always liked the drab look - like these military ones

Thanks for the encouragement.

Done lots of welding in the last few days including fabricating a new rear corner.

It's more of an industrial than military look I'm going for. I'm thinking of RAL 7031 Blue grey which is a kind of Panza grey although I quite like this red/brown.

Being an utter saddo I checked the weight figures for the container style graphics.

The code number is 122035 because L is the 12th and T is the 20th letter of the alphabet.

S1 means - for carrying livestock.

The hazard warning just reflects my general outlook on life.

Police and a team of crack mental health professionals were called today to the seaside lair of idiot van restorer Round and Square after a small part of his van was shockingly discovered not to be rusty!

Square, also known by the (ridiculous-made-up-for-the-internet) alias, Steve told them that he'd been minding his own business wasting days (actually weeks) of worth-while time fixing up his hopelessly rusty vehicle when the shocking discovery was made.

"I've fixed up one side already and I thought this side wouldn't be so bad" Square told the rozzers.

Some time later the laughter died down and square offered in mitigation the pitiful state of the nearside rear floor.

When asked if he was taking any powerful antipsychotic drugs Square mumbled something about seeing a well cool LT in Camden a few weeks ago.  He promised to post a picture of it on the UR Van bit of the LT Forum.

As he was lead away to start a community service sentence recycling string Square was heard to mumble "anyone seen the key to the grinder...  I'm sure I left the bloody thing somewhere round here.....  dribble .....  honk....  neaaaaaaaarrrrrrrr.......... somewhere......"

Read that as "crack metal specialists".

That side shot should be used teaching school kids about oxidation.

I don't think you're going mad Steve... much, but I bet she's gonna be a beauty when she's done ;)

Like I stated ?Steve? Wink the area ahead and inboard of the rear wheelarches is a cock-up in undersealing.

It does not look like you have had to drill the spot welds out. ?Too badly rusted, or just not welded?

First coat of topcoat on today.

Still having trouble with voices in my head....Confused

A few months ago I was working in London and thought I'd get a scooter to get around. I was going to get a yamaha or something like that... then this voice told me to go and buy a 40 year old Vespa (I'd only keep it as long as the job lasted and definitely wouldn't take it apart). On the last day of the job the clutch went so I trucked it home to fix and then get it on Ebay.  So...  I drop the engine and then the voice goes "You might as well take everything else off it and paint it now..."  So obediently I seem to have totally disassembled it.  Now the bugger's pointing out to me that I'll have some paint left over from the van so Why don't I paint it the same colour, make a rack and stick it on the back!!!!   HELP!!!!!

When I were a lad.........

Yes I am lucky to have a workshop although I've only got it for a limited time hence the high speed work.  Much respect to anyone trying to do something like this in a driveway.

Bumpers done...
