My vans booked in for remap at Celtic on 18th Jan.
Looking forward to seeing the difference-BHP & MPG. I've had it 5 years now and kept wondering what it would be like remapped. The 174's are a fast van anyway in standard format. |

I'm having my 174 re-mapped by Celtic on Jan 14th, however, it might be a while before I can put it through it's paces, I broke my shoulder on Boxing Day!!!
However, I've never seen the kind of mpg's that mistadave has, the best I've had is 32mpg, not going above 70 on the motorway. 75-80mph gets me about 27-28mpg so I'm interested to see how it responds after the remap. My main reason for having the remap is to smooth out the power delivery, as standard I find it a bit all or nothing. Norty |

Ouch! Sounds painfull. I feel for you. I've broken a few bones over the years (skiing/windsurfing/being stupid) and they all really hurt.
I'd quite like to get mine remapped for the same reason as you, I'd like a smoother delivery of all that dig. I don't care about fast off the line, I can't afford all the new tyres anyway. I get about around 30 mpg round town at the moment, 27 if I hurry around town, 23 ish towing (about a ton) and I can get 40 (accoring to the MFD) but to get that I have to look at the dash display all the time, if I look out of the windscreen it gets worse.

I get between 28 and 32 mpg depending how i drive it and tbh i,d be lying if i said i get better fuel economy after the remap but saying that its no worse either.
I agree with fozzy that because you have more power you dont need to put your foot down as much but then again because you,ve got more power you cant help yourself and end up giving it some just for the fun of it.

So hows the 85ps coping with double its power? I've got a 104 with 110,000 miles and considering the chip/remap to something a little more insurance company friendly then the monstrous 160 but throughly scared about gearbox (already had 1 @ 80,000), DMF (1 @ 86,000) and now clutch and drive shafts....

I dont carry heavy loads mainly tools but even with 3 motorbikes, 3 men and and all the riding gear, tools, petrol and what not it still averages about 30mpg.

Sounds like you're being too sensible! So, the ultimate question - how fast does it go now? (on private roads obviously).

Is that driving normally (taking advantage of the remapped acceleration etc) or like Miss Daisy?

Yep thats driving normally, i see rick can get 128 mph out of his, his remap must of removed the limiter because mine will pull well upto 124 mph and then refuses to go any more, i did paste a poor quality youtube clip on this forum where you can see it go upto 124 and then refuse to go any more even though i was flat out at 124 for 30 seconds.

I've seen 118 mph out of my van - standard unmapped 174.
This was using my Road Angel ( GPS speed reading ) The VW speedo was about 123 mph. I held this speed for about 5 miles chasing a BMW diesel car and found it wouldn't go any more. Speed limiter I think - it just plateau-ed out. Couldn't catch the Beemer but he couldn't lose me either. I think he was surprised that a van could be that fast ! Hope I see that Beemer again once i'm remapped. All above testing and racing was of course carried out on private roads... |

Does the re-map remove the speed limiter setting?
