For those that want to add a bit more noise than the front dash speakers can supply, and want to keep things, well, fairly inconspicuous then Caravelle dor pockets are for you.

Don't bee fooled by these e-bay ads, they are avaialble from your VW dealer for not much money.

They can only be fitted to a vehicle with single front seats, they won't fit vans with a twin passenger seat.

I'll dig the part numbers out soon, but for the minute..

For one side

  • Door pocket
  • Speaker grille
  • Speaker mount
  • pack of screws.
  • captive nuts and screws for speaker mount.

Fitting is kinda simple.

  • Remove window winder (if fitted)
  • Flip the plastic cover off the door handle and remove the screws behind.
  • Unscrew the "button"
  • Undo the screws on the inner and outer edge of the door panel.
  • Lift up the door panel, then pull towards you.
  • Unclip electric mirror/window switches if fitted.
  • remove panel.

Now, behind the panel, if you already have a normal door pocket you will see the screws, obviously remove these but the new panel does not share the same holes.

You will see, marked out in the moulding the screw holes you need to drill, obviously offer up your new panel to make sure you drill the right ones.

Also, marked out on the back of the panel is where to cut to make room for the speaker mount.

Once the speaker mount hole is cut and the door pocket mounted you need to install the speaker mount and refit the door pocket.

For your information, the front dash speakers are 4", the door pocket speakers are 6.5"

There are plenty of component systems out there containing 4", 6.5" and a set of tweeters and cross overs.

Piece of piss.

Speak to Lightcliffe (or Halifax VW as they are now called)

If you want me to get them, or price them up I can do, something i hope to eventually stock anyway and sell at VW retail prices (the same as you would pay)

I have also just taken delivery of cruise control kits, £55.75 plus VAT.

If you wouldn't mind pricing them up Simon, that would be brill.

If it's too much hassle, don't worry, I'll go pester the VW guys.

Cheers.

If I go armed with a print out of this thread to the stealership... do you
reckon they'd be able to look up the right stuff?

I've been using vagcat.com to try and locate the said parts... but it's
boggling my brain tonight!!

Part numbers for front door pockets with speaker cut outs.

I have gone for "Flannel Grey" reckoned on these being more popular.

Prices are from ETKA, not been updated in a while though.

  • Door pocket left - 701 867 131 E 7DE [£21.35]
  • Door pocket right - 701 867 132 E 7DE [£21.35]
  • Speakers grilles (x2) - 703 035 793 C U71 [£9.16 each]
  • Speaker mount left - 701 035 417 [£10.84]
  • Speaker mount right - 701 035 417 A [10.84]
  • Door pocket screws - N 904 02 (x30) [£0.13 each]

Speakers to fit these pods are 6.5" and can be raped from MKIII Golfs (they are a 1HO part number, meaning a Golf part number) If you want to put anything other than stock speakers in you will have to do a bit of butchery to the mounts, not impossible but can be fiddley, you just need a bit more room for the magnets.

Speaker size for dash speakers are 4"

Wires will need to be run from either the dah speaker or the head unit to the door, there are no handy already wired plugs in there im affraid.

Other colours are available, that nasty blue colour, or that worse beige colour.
